0.27.0 Unrar doesn't work for long list of downloads
« on: December 03, 2007, 11:15:29 pm »
I used the newzbin website to add some downloads. They were added to the download queue without problems and started to download.

My download speed is very high so the download is faster than decoding and unraring.

After a while the download queue page looked like this:

Download 1 [100%]
Download 2 [100%]
Download 3 [35%] (<- decoding active on that file)
Download 4
Download 5
Download 6 [0%] (<- download active on that file)
Download 7
Download 8
Download 9

The PAR2 page looks like this:
Download 1 [100%]
Download 2 [100%]
Download 3

I don't know if my high download speed (and the space between the decoding Download and the downloading Download) is the reason for my problem/bug, but maybe it helps you to solve it.

The problem/bug is, that the PAR2 check and unrar process is not starting anymore for Download 3 (for this example), but the files show up in the PAR2 tab. If I expand the download to see the files, all files are shown in red. From this moment on all pending Downloads won't show up on the PAR2 tab at all.

The download queue page now looks like this:

Download 1 [100%]
Download 2 [100%]
Download 3 [100%]
Download 4 [100%]
Download 5 [100%]
Download 6 [45%] (-<decoding active on that file)
Download 7
Download 8
Download 9 [0%] (<- download active on that file)

But the PAR2 tab has not changed:

The PAR2 page looks like this:
Download 1 [100%]
Download 2 [100%]
Download 3

I can solve this by selecting "Recheck PAR2 sets at startup" and restarting altbinz. I now can expand the files of Download 3 and watch how the RAR files slowly change from red to green. After all files are green the unrar process starts.

The problem with this solution is, that all Downloads that have been decoded in the meantime will never appear on the PAR2 tab.

The PAR2 tab now looks like this:
Download 1 [100%]
Download 2 [100%]
Download 3 [100%]
Download 7

Now the chances are very high the altbinz doesn't start to PAR2-check and unrar Download 7 too. So the problem starts again. I have to restart altbinz and Download7 is unrared without any problem, but all Downloads already decoded in the meantime don't ever show up on the PAR2 tab. So the next entry on the PAR2 tab is "Download 10" for example.

I don't know if it should work, but selecting "UNRAR" for one of the missed files on the download queue doesn't help. There is simply no way for me to make thouse missed Downloads appear on the PAR2 tab.

Additional info: There is a small PAR2 file available in the folder of the bugged Downloads and the files extract without problems using WinRAR.

I have the same problem.

Some of my downloads are downloaded even with par2 files.
But they are not visable in de par2 list to get unrarred.
About 1 on the 3 downloads have this problem by me.

And i don't use the autocleanup option.

I have the same exact problem. I too have a very fast download rate and the decoding usually lags behind the currently downloading file. The par2 checking seems to be fine for the first few, but then on or about the third one (I haven't kept track, so I can't say for sure but it was the 3rd one this time), it gets part of the way through the par2 checking and stops and won't find any more files. No more par2 files are added after this. I can not even manually import a par2 file. I am then forced to close alt.binz and reopen it to get it to work again. Also, if I go into the setup and try to make a change, I get an error message (I don't remember what it is off the top of my head) and can't make any changes. After closing and reopening, it works fine. It seems to work fine as long as there are only a couple of downloads going, but it seems to hang up when there are a bunch of downloads going and it can't keep up.

This has been going on since I started using alt.binz and I keep hoping it will be fixed in the next release, but so far it hasn't (I'm using 0.27.0). I was thrilled when I found this program because it added the functionality I was missing from NewsLeecher while still letting me use the NL Super Search, but this bug is very frustrating.

If anybody has any helpful suggestions, please let me know and I will give it a shot. If not, maybe this bug will be fixed in the next version or two.

Thanks,
Daniel

did you try using the new stop download while unrar/repair feature?
