0.28.2 crashes where 0.28.0 didn't
« on: August 23, 2008, 11:18:16 pm »
I just upgraded to 0.28.2 from 0.28.0

I loaded up a .nzb with about 2100 pictures & wmv's from a.b.pictures (total of about 150mb).

0.28.2 downloads for about 5 minutes, maybe around half of the files, then it just disappear (crashes, and is gone from the screen and task manager).

I loaded it up again, and the files are all gone from the queue (I guess it wasn't running long enough to auto-save the queue). so I loaded the queue again, manually paused the files that were already downloaded, and restarted, and it did the same thing in a few minutes.

So I restarted it again, tried a completely different .nzb with a similar number of pictures, and it did exactly the same thing, in a few minutes it crashed and disappeared.

So I unzipped the files from the 0.28.0 archive I downloaded when it was released, loaded up those same .nzb's, and its been happily downloading these files for the past 1/2 hour without a hickup.

Therefore, I believe a bug has been introduced between 28.0 and 28.2

WinXP SP2, 2gb mem, plenty of harddrive space free on both the download drive and the drive where alt.binz sits and saves its queue files (>10gb each).

Cheers,
The REAL Joe

In your Log: decoding, unraring, repairing when it crashed?

Specific steps to reproduce the bug would help - perhaps PM them to Rdl, though. ;)

First Crash:

2nd Crash:

[8/23/2008 3:39:17 PM] [Dec] Uuencode file zzz12x012.wmv decoded in 94ms
[8/23/2008 3:39:21 PM] [Dec] Exception Privileged instruction
[8/23/2008 3:39:21 PM] [Dec] Exception Access violation at address 4C0BE394. Write of address 4CAF4CAD

3rd Crash:

[8/23/2008 3:39:28 PM] [Dec] Uuencode file zzz13x073.jpg decoded in 16ms
[8/23/2008 3:39:34 PM] [Dec] Exception Access violation at address 4BEA622C. Read of address FFFFFFFF

4th:

[8/23/2008 3:52:29 PM] [Dec] Uuencode file zzz50x021.jpg decoded in 0ms
[8/23/2008 3:52:29 PM] [Dec] Exception Access violation at address 4F09406B. Write of address C7F5C1E7

As I said, 28.0 has been happily downloading the same .nzb's now for nearly 3 hours without issue, but 28.2 kept crashing over and over...

In terms of steps to reproduce - well, I don't know what more to say than in my first post... I thought I explained it fairly clearly there.

/TRJB

<edit> 28.0 now running steady for 9 hours @ 800kb/s without crashing, so it's not the machine or the nzb's, it's definitely 28.2

So, judging from your log, we've narrowed down the problem to 0.28.2 crashing while decoding uuencoded files on your system.  There was a fix for corrupt uuencoding in 0.28.0 as I recall ...

Anyway, steps to reproduce (by someone else!): just adding a lot of pics to the queue doesn't reproduce this error.  So I suggest you send Rdl a link to the NZB.  There's little chance it will be fixed unless he can reproduce it on his system and therefore debug it.

I had crashes too after i upgrade my altbinz.
To avoid crashes, i just reinstalled it from scratch.

(means delete my "C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Alt.Binz" folder on vista or the whole program files\altbinz folder on XP)

Pls install alt.binz outside of program files.

Shouldn't be necessary to delete anything on XP.  Alt.Binz is chugging away happily here on XP SP3 in Program Files, where it's been for almost 2 years and a lot of updates.  ;)

I also saw a crash, not sure if its the same, but the testcase is the same
The error message popup showed:

Exception EInvalidCast in module altbinz.exe at 00073261.
Invalid class typecast

This thread is about 0.28.2.  Since you're not a Contributor, you only have access to 0.25.0.

the top bars shows your actual version.

The version button shows wich version is the newest or "current" if you have the newest

since 0.28.2 altbinz seems to hang from time to time especially when opening options, start and shutdown of the app. 0.28.1 had none of these issues (vista x64).

I thought I add it here instead of opening a new thread hope that's ok as it is a something that started with 0.28.2 too
