Title: 0.31.4 Global Search
Post by: aybee5ea on February 14, 2010, 06:55:13 am
When trying to use Global Search, the "Search, Fill and Cancel" buttons are unresponsive. i.e they do nothing other than change "colour" when clicked upon. So no Global Search for me. I can perform individual searches.

Under Linux Wine (1.1.38) on my system the new skin graphics are much more slow (just about acceptable).

Thank you.

I'm getting "Invalid Class Typecast" when doing a global search using XP Pro SP3. Individual searches are fine though :)

Still the same under Linux/Wine. Global search doesn't appear to work.

OK. Default skin doesn't allow Global Search to work here. Some other skins seem to.

"Seem to"?  Yes or no?  Which ones do/don't?  The more precise the info, the quicker the fix will be.

LightBusiness does not, for me allow, Global Search. All the others do. For me, LightBusiness is my largest problem.

There are other complications which I can try to document later which are that some of the skins "for me" cause the found thread texts to be almost unreadable and other skins do not allow (again "for me") a "right-click" to generate a context menu.

I have settled on the Windows7 skin (which works consistently) even though I am not a great M$ fan :-)

Yup, I'm sure it works for you since you have tested it before release in a number of environments but which don't correspond to my environment.

I'm feeding back what is happening for me. It's obviously MY problem, but nevertheless, it's a problem I'm having.

By giving feedback I would hope that it may make someone consider what is different between the skins (if anything).

I understand that because I'm using Wine that there are different potential issues, not least, in Wine's emulation.

I'm pleased with altbinz and its functionality. For me though, functionality is always better than cosmetics.

I don't care what characteristics a stick has so long as I can throw it for my dog to return.

YMMV.

I think *I* did, but never before, in any industry, have I come across a production version numbering system where bug fixes have the same version number as a previously released version.

It doesn't make it wrong or right - it's simply an observation regarding potential confusion. If the version number were different, the question wouldn't be needed.

Question wasn't for you, but observation is ok. I was lazy.

That's why *I* said "*I*" and at the same time I took an opportunity to make an observation.

In any event thank you for both your honesty and your hard work. It is greatly appreciated by me and countless others.

PS Is there anything basically different between the *skin* implentations which can, in some cases, cause differing user experiences (like something working and then not working) for the same user? Differening graphics libraries or M$ .net or some other commercial stuff? Just a thought.

With the newer version, everything is working well. Thanks Rdl

I guess that because I as a user have found a workaround and "unfortunately" I am using a "minority" system, there is now no bug.

Been there, done that myself.

I'm still intrigued how the implementation of these "useful" skins can cause different user experiences (for me at least).

One skin, for me, doesn't work.

As you can see, this thread is still open, so you can untwist those knickers now. :p

The skin in question is the only one with some fade-in/out effects, maybe that's what Wine has probs with.  Although Alt.Binz isn't officially supported under Wine, I'm sure Rdl will issue a fix if one becomes apparent.  Unless he decides to keep it secret to spite you, of course.

I just love to be "spited" by fade-in and fade-out issues... especially when it involves my only pair of knickers.

It now looks like you have an understanding of where this cosmetic "bug" may lie because of the additional feedback you requested and which was provided. I have always indicated it could be a Wine subsytem issue. Linux/Wine exists, will not go away anywhere fast or soon and it can either be embraced or ignored.

In spite of "ranting" I still give out a big thank you to all who have been involved in this project.

:-)

I just noticed the invalid type error appears when pressing 'fill' on global search. I have the new 'search fixed' 31.4.
