Hi!
I mentioned this bug in the new releases thread, but now it seems this is consistent with all 0.35.x releases. I cannot post logs as nothing is written in the logfiles. After starting altbinz it freezes right after checking my account. After that I have to manually kill the program as it would just stay frozen with 13-14% cpu usage. I tried unpacking to a new directory, to no avail.
0.33.4 works, but I'd like to use the newest version.
Computer details:
W7 Ultimate x86
core i7 860
Comodo firewall (rule set to allow altbinz net access)
What else is needed? Something from process monitor/process explorer?

Unpacking to new dir is not enough. Try deleting (or backing up somewhere else) everything from c:\Users\_YOUR_USERNAME_\AppData\Local\Alt.Binz
-
Done, no change - still freezes right after the start :-[

same problem.
how do we "clear" the computers we've used it on ? i have a feeling that's why, i have it on my computer at my office too. it's freezing after logging in, when removing the entire misc folder, it doesn't freeze. you login and restart, it freezes

Try to empty your NZB autoimport folder maybe?
-
Did you try to stop Comodo? Of course, your firewall is set to let altbinz work, but maybe the new version needs to be allowed again. I had the same problem with open armor (without freezing, fortunately) but each new altbinz version is identified/classified as a new program to connect to the internet.

Alright, found something. It seems that 0.35.x only freezes if I put it in the folder that used to contain older versions. If I put it in d:\Program Files\net\altbinz\, it freezes.
If I put it in i:\g\g\g\g\ (Don't laugh, g is temp within temp :) ) it doesn't freeze... However, I'd like to use altbinz from its usual directory :)

I've expirienced something similar yesterday. After installing SP1 for W7 and rebooting I've started altbinz and it frooze for good 30sec. However after that it had continued working. I've tried reproducing it after that but had no luck :(
-
For me the freeze doesn't stop after 30 secs... What would you need of me to track down this issue?
-
Is "misc" folder located in "d:\Program Files\net\altbinz\"
-
No, it is located under c:\Users\_YOUR_USERNAME_\AppData\Local\Alt.Binz

Just tried 0.36, it exhibits the same behaviour. In the directory where 0.34.x used to reside it freezes instantly after account checking. But, in a new directory it works problem free... Do you have an idea what could cause this, or should I come to term with the fact that I'll have to install altbinz in a new directory from now on?
-
Based on your messages, could you try c:\altbinz and i:\altbinz location. Also take a look at https://www.altbinz.net/forum/index.php?topic=4727.0
I think it's the same problem. Do you have similar dir structure.
It would be interested to let it run for 10-20 min just to confirm it. Also I'm interested in what dir is explorer tab in all 3 cases.

Ok, altbinz works just fine from c:\altbinz; i:\altbinz
On both occasions the default directory under the Explrorer tab was c:\Users\_YOUR_USERNAME_\AppData\Local\Alt.Binz\download
However, when I copied it to d:\altbinz, it froze again. I let it sit for almost 30 mins, no "unfreeze" happened. So it definitely has problems with it being on drive d:
Nzb autoload is not ticked, i don't use the feature

Same here, alt.binz has always resided on my D:\ partition. Moving it to g:\ the new versions work fine! I didn't even have to start a fresh folder, I simply replaced the "lang" folder 0.33.4 executable with the new version and it works fine again.
Happy days :)

Oh, and for the record I also use Comodo Firewall.

And what happened when you temporarily disabled Comodo to troubleshoot?
-
I tried with comodo disabled/enabled, also with nod32 diabled/enabled. Didn't make a difference :(
-
Now this is strange. If altbinz is called by firefox after downloading an .nzb, it does not freeze. Only if I start it manually...

As Appel noticed, this problem could be ralated to: https://www.altbinz.net/forum/index.php?topic=4738.0 (https://www.altbinz.net/forum/index.php?topic=4738.0)
This is fixed now, so I need your feedback on startup freeze problem in 0.36.1 (once it's out)
-
I'm happy to report that the freeze problem is indeed fixed! Thanks for the exemplary support :)

I was hoping that this behaviour would be solved with the solving of the bug I logged a while ago, but I now (version 0.36.1) encounter this problem far worse than before. I'm not able to reproduce it.
The process takes up about 50% CPU, and then it just doesn't react for a few minutes. I either have to kill it, or have to wait (some 5 minutes) and hope that it works again.
I have switched off the autoimport nzb, and I have selected a directory that does not have any subdirs that autoimport nzb is pointing to. What I mean it was switched on, configured that directory and then switched off. That way I was hoping it would not browse through numerous directories.
Does anyone else encounter this?
