0.31.5 Crashes on startup
« on: March 24, 2010, 08:44:16 pm »
It wont launch, so no log file to post, but here's the error popup, which just gives me the option to close ab, or go online and search for a solution.

And a screen of the error popup that comes after I terminate ab...

I'm on a fresh install of W7 Home x64 Swedish, fully updated.
And I run it on an intel i7 920 quad. Oh and I run ab out of my user dir, but tried in the main app dir as well. Also tried running it as admin, and I tried to run it clean, in a spanking new folder all by it's lonesome hehe, but to no avail.

I've never really had any issues with this lovely app (besides that pesky dual screen bug, which doesn't really bother me that much), but back to 0.31.4 for now.

There are very many posts in this forum about the various conditions that can cause Alt.Binz to go poopoo and the suggested solutions.  Without knowing more about what's actually happening on your end when the crash occurs, it's hard to be specific.  You could try the usual suspects: dodgy file in autoimport folder, corrupt queue file, bad folder permissions, and so on.  A forum Search will help you to narrow things down.

I'm guessing your reply was aimed at hapbt Hecks, since I've already tried all those things.
I have however done some more testing to see what could be causing this, and it's most likely because I'm running blackbox as shell. The error is not bb's fault tho, it's something in ab that goes wrong, but I have no idea what. How do I know it's not bb's fault? Simply because I've been running it for 5+ years and ab is the only app that has ever failed to run. And as the previous version run just fine (as do all the older versions) it's something in the new code that is causing it.

I'll see if I can do some more tests, but I'm pretty sure I'm at a loss here.

Have you installed any new apps recently?  What is running when AB crashes?  Have you looked at the System Event Viewer?  It may shed some light on another app which fails or is having issues around the same time.    I am running W7 Pro 64bit and have no issues.  Could you check the shortcut you're using and the .exe to see if they are set to run in compatibility mode; just a poke in the dark?
