Alt.binz 0.31.2 Crashes Vista Ultimate x64
« on: October 23, 2009, 07:46:38 am »
Seems iam getting memory error, when Running Alt.binz 31.2, iam not to techy on how to save or capture the errors, but when i leave it running overnight, i get up and a blue screen appears, also when i try to us Quickpar and it Auto Repairing i get Memory Error message when alt.biz is open, i have ran a Memtest86x and ran memory stick on each and every Memory bank it show's no errors at all, and even switched same memory to diffrent banks for testing and still no error's, my errors only happen when alt.binz is Running, i get this memory error for quite sometime, Now its a good program, but if its going to be crashing my pc like that, and reading what others are saying its doing to there OS, i might just have to look into something more compatible, to many crashes and memory dump errors when running this program, Will there be a fix to this program anytime soon? after all these complaints its obvious where the culprit lies, like ive said i have done testing, left maching running over night with out alt.binz open and no errors at all... Help  :-\

Some years ago I had similar problems with my setup, checked RAM blocks, bought new ones, etc. In the end, it turned out to be my hard drive that was faulty and it was the memoryswapping that caused the crashes. Have you tried running checkdisk with a full surface scan on either the drive on which you have your swap file or the temp drive of altbinz?

I'm running 0.31.2 on my Windows 7 64bit and have no problems whatsoever.

yes ive done a check disk, and if you read all the other people, there having same problems, has to do with alt.binz Sucking up huge memory, keep getting out of memory error, and also like i said, when i let my machine fun for 24-48 hours it doesnt even blink, all my errors begin when i start using alt.binz or open it up, an when i use quick Par to do a Repair on a file i downloaded with alt.binz ,  like i said just read on here and lots of people using this program are getting memory errors big time, locking up pc and crashing pc, cant be a koinkidink ? or Could it ?

If you read those posts more closely, you should have worked out a few things for yourself.  Firstly, that you should look at your Log for any error messages.  Most of those cases are "filename too long" errors (whole path more than 255 chars).  That's easy to solve.  If it's not that then - well, the simple truth is, if the minority of users who are having problems can't explain how the bug can be reproduced, then there's little prospect of a fix.  The dev isn't psychic.  So try to give as much information as possible.

no the filename fix is (for now) to shorten the path in order to avoid these kind of errors...
