Note the new message on the Binsearch site:
And while we are at it: please always use a plain normal web browser to get your Binsearch results, instead of those automated programs that have been around.
The majority is badly written software that hammers our servers (and get you banned).
And yes, using Binsearch via Alt.Binz will now get you a temporary IP ban, so that you can't even use the site via browser. That obviously sucks.

Can alt.binz not be made to emulate a web browser? I used to use a web-file sucker before called Webcow that let you chose whether it emulated IE or mozilla, even down to the version number...

The issue currently is one of principle rather than technical means of bypassing the restrictions (which is indeed trivial). Watch this space for a possible solution that might satisfy all sides ...
Edit: this was apparently a misunderstanding on my part, now clarified, please ignore this thread. ;)

This is nuts. Why doesn't Binsearch just throw in some advertising lines in the results for user's that use programs to use its search? I've always just used Binsearch, and since it does ban IP addresses now what is a good comparbale search tool to use now?
When I purchased News Rover they had their own search index which cost a little extra but was worth it since I didn't have to worry about anything. And it wasn't bogged down by so many people on the Internet trying to use it. Obvious Binsearch has been on to us, but what can we do. Do they ban your IP immediately or after a few searches?

Read my last post. As I said: a misunderstanding, so please untwist those knickers.
