only parts get downloaded
« on: September 27, 2008, 03:41:28 am »
Hi!

I am a contributor using v.0.28.2. Starting yesterday alt.binz downloads only parts. i think the problem started after enableing throttling (limiting the download speed). so basically i end up with a bunch of folders with names like "0a1db65a52d38587021895da4cae3935", each folder containing lots of small parts of the file. is this a bug or is it something wrong with my usenet provider/whatever? also, since i already have about 8Gb of partial files, is there any way to convert them to the legitimate files (i'd like to avoind downloading the same things again). thanks.

those names are ok (they are parts) from filenames. But they should be decoded.
Pls look into your log, what it tells you and read this: https://www.altbinz.net/wiki/Problem_Solving#My_files_are_stuck_with_status_.22decoding.22._What_can_i_do.3F

oh, i did read that before i posted! i have the parts files in the default download folder (which is the same as the temp folder) (c:\temp). the log file, apart for some  Statuscode =0, doesn't show anything abnormal.alt.binz was restarted and is running. but nothing gets decoded! connecting/disconnecting doesn't have any impact on this problem either. do you guys have any suggestions, what should i do next? thanks a lot.

Try the manual decoder linked here:

https://www.altbinz.net/forum/index.php?topic=1489.msg4839#msg4839

Status Code 0 means problem with the server, so there may be problems with these downloaded parts.

As far as I know, this only happens with certain anti-virus, anti-malware or similar interfering with the I/O, but that should have been solved by a restart.  Yours is the only example I've seen of this particular problem, so I doubt you'll see it again.  If you do, go though the basic trouble-shooting steps of switching off temporarily every suspect - AV, Windows Defender, firewall, indexer etc. etc. - until you find the culprit.  Or use something like Process Explorer to inspect any open handles on the file.  This is assuming that your Status Code 0 prob was not related here.  In any case, you can be 99.9% certain that speed throttling has nothing to do with it.
