"Out of Memory" issues since 0.38.3
« on: November 21, 2011, 02:49:50 am »
I'm one of those who perpetually has a very large queue, but let's not debate the reasons or merits here please.  My queue folder has 938 items in it, 933 mb in total.

When I load up v-0.38.3 and watch task manager, alt.binz counts up RAM used to 1,780,000k, then happily starts downloading and works flawlessly.  It is able to handle this large queue just fine.

Yesterday for no real reason in particular, I decided to upgrade to 0.39.3, and no find it will crash with an "out of memory" error.  I watched it in task manager, and the exact same queue counted up to just under 2,000,000k before the crash.  I did this several times, exact same results. (I should be clear here, the system is perfectly stable, it is just alt.binz that throws the error poping up a "Out of Memory" error box).

So I reinstalled 0.38.3 over my installation, and it loads fine using the same 1,780,000k, working perfectly again.

I then downloaded all the other newer versions that are available (38.5, 39.0, 39.1, 39.2) and they all have the same problem, counting up memory well past what 0.38.3 does, and crashing just before task manager shows 2gb of memory consumed.

So I can only surmise that sometime after 0.38.3 the way alt.binz handles memory has changes as it is expanding the exact same queue into a much larger memory space that stops it from loading.

Running in Win7x64 with 4gb of ram installed.

Is there any way you could put the memory management back to the old way so it's more efficient and doesn't consume so much on load?

Cheers
The REAL Joe
