Tray Icon issue
« on: March 20, 2009, 11:06:32 am »
I usually have Alt.Binz running in the background, showing only the tray icon. Sometimes when I click the tray icon to restore the window to its full state nothing happens. No matter what I try, the tray icon does not respond to anything. There is no popup and no rightclick menu. This has been happening since 0.28.4 if I remember correctly.
This appears to happen at random. At first I thought it was due to Alt.Binz being busy repairing or extracting a rar set. However after checking the task manager it was quite clear Alt.Binz wasn't doing anything. It even happened once while Alt.Binz was in a paused state.
It's not much of an issue since simply launching Alt.Binz again shows the application just fine without actually running it twice. The application can then be minimized to the tray and be restored fine.
I've been trying to find a way to reproduce this issue but no luck so far.

I've never seen the behaviour you describe with Alt.Binz (on XP), but whenever the tray is misbehaving with other apps, I try restarting explorer.exe from the taskmanager.  That usually shifts things.

You mention Windows XP. That made me realize I didn't mention I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. I'll try restarting explorer next time it happens to see if that works. Just starting Alt.Binz again is probably going to be easier though. I'm running Launchy so it's basically pressing alt-space, typing 'al' and hitting enter ;)

EDIT: It happened again during regular downloading. I killed explorer and restarted and the icon responded again.

Hi, I actually have this same problem, I was going to post it until I read this.

I also have Vista Ultimate 64bit.

What happens is same as the OP stated, the tray icon does nothing when double clicked to open it. Opening the shortcut to the exe to load again works to open it up, but to close it I have to go into task manager and end the process. What I have noticed is that when it is downloading something from scratch it seems to be ok, but if say i queue up a few things, and one or two have par checked/unrared, the problem happens, the rest will stil download but the tray icon will happen.

Also what I have noticed related to this, is the bubble that pops up to say download complete from the sys tray. Usually I will download something, and then use Windows Key + L to go to the switch user screen to lock my PC. When i log back on the tray icon wont work, and I have to run the shortcut which pops the program up, and sometimes the bubble will pop up saying download complete, although it has actually finished well before this. After the bubble pops up the tray icon goes back to working, but this does not happen all the time. Seems to be hit and miss. I will try and notice anymore patterns which might help ID this.

I have not experienced this problem in the past 2 weeks. The only difference with the time when it did occur is that I now reboot my machine on a regular basis (daily or bi-daily).

I want to report that I have started to experience this same issue myself. I also run Vista 64bit Ultimate. Doubleclicking Altbinz shortcut that I have on the desktop expands the icon from the tray when it's stuck in there! Nothing else would bring it up... :o

I'm also having this problem also ect. when I can't open Alt.binz by double clicking the icon in the task bar (near the clock) I have noticed that Alt.binz is using around 1/2 to all of my CPU?  ???

I am running a laptop with the following
Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 2000 MHz (12 x 167)
3072 MB  (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM)
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
I'm not using the wireless but am using a 100Mb network cable.
