Hey
I was running Altbinz 0.25.0 for a few months without a problem. I have now changed to version 0.30.0.
I have on peak and off peak usage and download most of my stuff at night.
what happens is Altbinz will freeze it doesn't matter if you have minimized it to the task bar or leave it open and maximized. It will lock both CPUs to full speed as well. I have gone back to version 0.28.5 and it does the same.

The thing I'm going to try tonight is run 0.28.5 on a different computer but this is only for test because I would like to use my notebook to download with because it cheaper to run all night than my beast of a desktop computer.

I can't go back any feather because when I click on the download link in the forum I get the error: Nice try. Now go play in the sand

The log file doesn't shed any light on the problem. When the program freezes the log just stops.

Also it doesn't matter is I'm downloading a large or small files.

With my notebook looks like I have to go back to version 0.25.0 which is a bit sad because I have donated and love the program and would like to use the latest version for people who donated.

My notebooks specs are
Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 2000 MHz (12 x 167)
3072 MB  (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM)
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
I'm not using the wireless but am using a 100Mb network cable.

Any help would be great

is it freezing on a specific nzb?  is it freezing at a certain point (like on repair, on unrar, etc)?

Same problem here. It happens on a Dell Inspiron laptop and on a normal AMD 64 desktop, both WinXP32 with 2 GB RAM.

Looking at the circumstances, I suspect the freezes are related to the decoding phase, not sure though. Could also be a multi-threading issue, an infinite loop somewhere, or maybe a memory-allocation gone haywire, since the Alt.Binz process sometimes just disappears when these freezes occur... in other cases it just resumes downloading.

I'm expirimenting with the decoder sleep settings, not much improvement though. Also tried disabling logging & article-aging, didn't help much either. One thing I notice is, that during a freeze, the main window doesn't refresh. I tried collapsing all info-panes, hid as much tabs as I could (only queue, par and NLSS are open) ... nothing.

Weird thing is, that my desktop didn't have this problem with older versions (like the poster above).

Maybe a solution : I disabled "Autoimport NZB files from folder", and now Alt.Binz doesn't freeze anymore!

Yeah that would be logical question.

I don't have Autoimport NZB files from folder turned on?

My Just freezes in the Task Manager the process is still there but using 50% of the CPU. If I try to start another Alt.Binz it does nothing but runs another process which only appears in the task manager.

New version 0.30.2 doesn't fix problem  :(

I been using my Media Centre with Alt.Binz to download because on my notebook it would freeze.

Alt.Binz froze on my Media Centre aswell. The only program that I have running on both the Media Centre and the note book is Avast (free version)

Don't know anyone else is having this problem?

Not sure if you've already tried the usual trouble-shooting steps, but:

1. Disable AV completely, or at least disable NNTP scanning and exclude anything Alt.Binz-related (Newsleecher has similar probs with Avast).

2. Disable firewall (sometimes this takes more than just a manual disable).

3. Disable Defender and any other proggy that may be interfering with Alt.Binz files.

4. Install Process Monitor to see exactly what's writing what to where when Alt.Binz freezes.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

That should help you narrow things down a bit.  You can re-enable stuff when you've found the culprit.

Ok thanks just noticed that Avast was installed on both computers.
