windows 8.1 alt.binz does not start

After the update to WINDOWS 8.1 alt.binz won't start: Exception EOleException in module altbinz.exe 001AD0B0.
i'am using 39.15.

If solved the problem by starting alt.binz not from the program files folder, but from the download folder.

I agree, this is a windows 8.1 bug. I'll keep trying to find a solution. But help might be welkom :)

Oke, deleted alt.binz folder in C:\Users\WerkPC\AppData\Local. Made a fresh install with 39.4 en replaced them with 39.15. And it is working again.

Same error now on another computer with windows 7! Methode to restore altbinz working as above doesn't works this time.
Now using the freeware version 39.4 without problems. But 39.14 and 39.15 do not work anymore.

I am also having this issue on Windows 7. I tend to leave the application running until a reboot is needed for patches. This suggests, the last time I reboot was mid Nov. Today, I added a filter to eliminate post-rar URL files and when it didn't work, I closed the program and reboot. Once it loaded, it crashed. When it crashes, the process hangs and cannot be killed. I've rebooted, loaded the application again, and it failed in the same way. I deleted the folder, reverted to .39.14 (was .39.15) and it failed in the same way.

Avast DOES appear to be the cause. I disabled Avast and alt.binz loaded immediately. I then added altbinz.exe to Exclusions for "Deep Screen" and reenabled Avast. It worked. I reboot. It worked. Problem resolved. Many thanks :)
