xpat incompatibility with newsplex v4.4

hi all,
there is a slight problem using NEWSPLEX v.4.4 as a local newsserver for xpat querys. i´ve done some traces and it shows that altbinz sends out the xpat query and gets the results back. Instead of xovering for the description, altbinz hangs with the search button greyd. you can now press abort to get it going again but a subsequent xpat will hang altbinz forever (needs to kill via taskman). i´ve done some xpat tests with public newsserver and had no problem at all. the trouble is with NEWSPLEX only.
If there is interest to debug further i´m glad to open up my NEWSPLEX for testing. Just let me know.

...i´ve investigated this a little bit further. altbinz works OK if the xpat response send by the server looks like:
221 SUBJECT matches follow0d0a
%ld20%s0d0a

NEWSPLEX does a TAB instead of a SPACE (formating purposes)
%ld09%s0d0a

and hell breaks loose (windows access violation at xxx). I've checked the RFC for nntp and found no required format for server responses (but can be wrong here). I do have a patch for newsplex but i´m not sure if it breaks other things in the newsplex message database. So I thought it´s better to ask here first. Thanks for reading.
