socks v5 support for HTTP Proxy / Firewall (search engines)
« on: February 01, 2008, 01:32:09 am »
Hello -

I would like to request SOCKS v5 support for the 'HTTP Proxy / Firewall (search engines)' option.  I currently have to use my web browser to make searches on NZB sites like Newzleecher, but I'd like to start using alt.binz for this.  All of my web browser traffic goes through a socks 5 proxy since I'd rather my ISP not be able to log/track the sites I visit and the searches I make.

Currently, when I try to use alt.binz for searches with the 'HTTP Proxy / Firewall (search engines)' option enabled, with the correct address and port listed (does not require authentication), I can't get any results back.  I'm assuming this is because the option doesn't support socks 5 at the moment.  If I disable the option, searches are returned, but I don't want my ISP seeing some of the things I search for.  With the HTTP Proxy option enabled and not functioning for me currently, the "No results" status text changes after I attempt the search to "Error during transfer".

Many thanks for considering this addition!

PM me proxy address (if it's public/available to me) or find me another socks 5 public proxy which doesn't work via alt.binz and I'll take a look (and probably fix problem)

Hey there Rdl.

I sent you a PM concerning this issue, but you haven't gotten back to me.

Do you think I cannot use my SOCKS 5 proxy for any searches because the "Socks 4 / Socks 4a / Socks 5" option is not built into the 'HTTP Proxy / Firewall (search engines)' option like it is built into the 'Proxy / Firewall (nntp connections & NL SS' option?

Btw, you left the closing parenthesis off the end of the 'Proxy / Firewall (nntp connections & NL SS' option....   :o

 :P

Thanks for any reply!

Please look me up @ #alt.binz @EFnet around 16:00 - 22:00 CET and I'll prepare then test version for you.

No, that means, if you show up tommorow I'll prepare a test version just for you(or maybe a few test versions) in order to solve socks5 problem

lol, I was just kidding (hence the  :P)

I was there last night from 8-10pm CST, and now that I'm off of work, I've been on #alt.binz since 4pm CST today.  So I'll see you there.  You may have to talk me through using DCC unless you're hosting the test version somewhere for me to dl.

Edit:   I misunderstood your CET for CST...  I'm in the US, so getting off of work at 4pm means you're already been logged off of IRC an hour, I guess.  Can you email the test version to me?  If so, PM me and I'll send you an address.
