Possibility to deactivate a server temporary
« on: October 15, 2006, 08:55:37 am »
Hi,

great program, I already deleted the other newsreaders...

I have one whish: I am a giganews client and they offer the newsservers news.giganews.com and news-europe.giganews.com on port 23, 80 and 119. So I added 6 different server:ip connections to split the traffic.

On some Internetproviders, they have a transparent proxy on port 80, so that connection doesn't work. I'd like to deaktivate that (two) connections temporary when I'm using such a connection.

Maybe you could add a kind of random function, or if connection 1 works its great, else use connection 2. Or in 30% of the new connections use connection 3 and in 70% connection 4...

And the usenet searchengine http://yabse.com is way better than binaries.nl, maybe you can add that one too...

BTW, The "monitor a directory for a new nzb" function rocks!

regards,
cider

But why would you use all 6 server/port variation at the same time? One server:port with few connections is not enough? But you can easily uncheck servers and alt.binz will not use them.

well, I like to split the risk.

Some providers block or slow down traffic on port 119 or special file sharing ports. Or as I mentioned in the first post on port 80 there is sometimes a transparent proxy so that the usenet login doesn't work. I don't want my provider to see that their is a lot of traffic only on one ip:port.

I didn't see the checkbox in front of every connection, sorry :-D Thats what I wanted. Maybe you can add that unheck feature in the "right click menue" of the connection window. When I am on a connection where port 80 doesn't work, the programm tries every few seconds to connect to that server. I have to close the connection, go to setup, uncheck, and connect again to fix that. It would be great to just right click and "uncheck this connection".

If you could now implement the yabse.com searchengine in a future release I would be perfectly happy.

Thank you very much!

I've implemented NZBindex.nl in new version. I'm not sure if yabsee is good enough to be implemented.
