Title: Use SFV to verify files, if no PAR2 available
Post by: afdad on February 28, 2007, 03:56:36 pm
Every now and then, there are posts without any PAR2 files. But usually they do have an SFV file to verify all the parts. In that case, it would be convenient to be able to import an SFV file (right click in PAR2 tab). If the verification succeeds, the post could then be unrared.

Thats exactly the same thing I want to request. Right now I am downloading a post without par file but with a sfv file. So alt.binz won't unrar it automatically.

Thank you very much!

i was wondering if implementing sfv-support would a lot of work. since quickpar can use sfv to see wether all data is around it might be handy enableing auto unrar when no par2 files are around.

I would like to see that, too. Just a few minutes ago I finished a huge download with no pars, but with an sfv file. All files turned out to be OK, so alt.binz could have unrared it.

If sfv files are supported, one possibility to add this feature would be in the PAR2 tab: right click -> "Import SFV file(s)".

or drag and drop... it would be handy and nice to be realized but only if its not to much work since most of the time there are par2 files...

I would like to see that feature, too. There are enough posts withour a par-set. so maybe the option could be in the par2-settings: if no par2 is present, load sfv.

since a lot of people seem to be intrested it would be nice if there could be some kind of feedback, if this seems technicaly possible and wether it is planed 2 be included otherwise the thread makes little sence :-)

hi there, any progress on that? there are still posts without par-set but they have the svf and you still have to unrar every single one of them manually :) (lazy as I am ;)).

Yes it would be a good thing to add,if it"s not too hard
once in a while you do get a post with no par2's.

so alt.Binz can"t unrar it automaticaly now. :(

I guess not the optimal solution, but here is a free (very old) program that I use to overcome this issue.

Hasn't been updated since 2004.  Having a hell of a time finding something (freeware) that works just as well.

http://www.triceptual.co.uk/shareware/Applications.asp?appid=sfvmanager

Only issue I have had with this program above is that sometimes posters like to list the actual par files as well.  So when this happens, I get a failed response even though the files are all intact.

This alternative is $10, so won't break the bank.  Very fast, but seems to have crapped out on my after using a couple of times.  Again hasn't been updated for a few years :)

http://www.traction-software.co.uk/SFVChecker/

I also like the program extract now.  The url should be pretty obvious.  I don't use the auto extract feature of alt.binz, just auto integrity check.  Seem to consistently (not all the time) have issues with enough par files being available, but not downloaded for some reason.  Mostly use for the multiple archive testing option. So then can manually download and repair archives is necessary.  Also very useful if no sfv or par files in posts :)

Hopes this helps. Spent quite a bit of time off and on searching for a solution.

You paid for this program didn't you :)

It's only a few dollars, so no like it's breaking the bank.  Not to mention, tried a ton of free and shareware programs and found that those two were the only ones that do the job properly.

If the source is this guy (https://www.altbinz.net/forum/general-talk/windows-8-consumer-64bit-issue/msg24591/#msg24591), I would not trust him.

Word on the street is that he built a '4' shaped swimming pool with the money of contributors and printed the paypal invoices to replace water.

Five years in making! Double the action! Triple the excitement!

After good 10 hours of work, this appears to be working now. However I'll leave the thread opened...
