Random freezes lasting 30-60 seconds
« on: June 10, 2016, 09:41:14 am »
Has anyone else experienced "random" freezing of the whole application - where the freeze can last from 30-60 seconds - but if you leave it, eventually it unfreezes and continues on as normal.

Most often I see this when Connecting / Disconnecting / Bringing the app to the foreground if it has been running behind another window and scrolling through the download queue.

When the freeze happens - all data stops, CPU activity for the app via task manager drops to 0.0%, you cannot move the window, minimise or do anything else.

It's possible that the freeze is happening when multiple RSS feeds are being retrieved - but I need to confirm this as if this was the main cause, I would see a freeze every 20 minutes as that is the default RSS refresh time.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64 with all latest patch updates 8GB RAM on an i5-5200U @ 2.20GHz HP 250 Laptop.

I am prepared to concede that it could be my laptop or my installation of Windows 10 - but this is the only app that behaves in this manner.

I'm prepared to post the log file if that will help - especially during an RSS refresh.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have omg rss active?

I've noticed freezing also, and I think it's https component I'm using with omg site is almost non responding state.

yes, I have two rss feeds from omg and 13 in total from various indexers

I use https on all the rss feeds since they all provide secured connections.

I'm posting here, just in case other users are looking at this, as I've contacted rdl directly about the issue:

since removing omgwthnzbs from my rss feeds, the freezing still happens, but not lasting as long.

If I immediately check my logs after a freeze I see the 13 or so rss feeds all being checked at once.

I'm drawing a conclusion that hitting that many rss feeds at once might be the cause of the freeze.

The next step will be to reduce the number of rss feeds to see what is a reasonable number to check at once.

Or, alternatively, as a possible suggestion, is there a way to stagger the rss feeds so one happens each minute or even 30 seconds apart? - that would mean the program wasn't hitting up 6 sites with 13 api requests all at the same time.

I would also draw a conclusion that omg was making the problem way worse.

Thanks again.

After checking multiple times over the past several hours, this issue appears to be fixed in 0.43.0

rdl, you can move this to Fixed Bugs please.

I had the same problem using version 39.4 when downloading at a new high speed option plan of up to 150KBs , The program would not be able to maintain data update at all with SSL setting and  more than 10 ports connection .When  set for 119 it would stumble along and freeze then recover, just not fast enough at near 50KBs.
That is when I gave in and looked for the latest version available  and here I am to say that V43.2 is worth its 17eu, and yes WOW !I am setup with 20 ports with SSL and getting average download over 130KBs with Newsgroups direct with Shaw server.(Vancouver BC)
