So this just started happening to me today after switching providers and setting up the new servers. I'm on 0.46 Win10 and now with Newsgroup Ninja.
The intended file will download normally according to the action bars and timers on the bottom but the progress/status bar remains at 0%. It appears to complete but then the progress/status bar just disappears!
When starting a subsequent download, suddenly the previous, unfinished one progress bar reappears and quickly goes from 0 to 100% and shows completed and the file magically appears in it's intended download location.
Strangest thing, can anyone help? I tried searching the forum.

As always all the info is in the detailed log. I think it's full of 430 not found errors.
-
I'll try and find the log and get right back to you. thanks.

As always all the info is in the detailed log. I think it's full of 430 not found errors.
Think I found the log:
For whatever reason it appears that it's the decoding it gets hung up on. As an example, I started with a clean slate, downloaded a file, progress bar never moves from 0% but the status on the lower half shows active downloading and a timer countdown. When it all finishes, everything stops and the progress bar simply disappears and nothing else happens. Then if I restart alb.binz, it the progress bar of the said file reappears and quickly counts up to 100% (as if it was checking the file) and the decoding/unraring begins! Again this behavior only seems to have started when I changed newsgroup providers as dumb as that sounds.
The log shows this after the restart and didn't see any "errors" anywhere:

more info, if I add subsequent downloads nothing happens, everything just remains hung on that prior download showing 0% even though it is completed. A restart of the program kicks something into gear as suddenly that intitial download resumes "decoding" then unraring and the others in the queue start downloading again until the next one is done and the problem happens all over again! Very strange and nothing in the logs that I can see.
-
It just appears that it's stuck on the "decoding" process if you examine the following 2 screenshots. They were taken once the downloading was complete and the status bar disappears. When I expand the NZB subject, you can see it says decoding but nothing is happening. When I restart the application, it all of a sudden starts decoding:

Is this behaviour specific for some nzbs or all?
There were some decoding changes in 0.46.0.4 so maybe try lower version.
Log says that at the moment of decoding not a single encoded part of the file couldn't be found. But, after restart they are there. Is something blocking the access to those files?
Quick way to see if that is the case is to enable memory cache option in altbinz that can hold at least one full file. If that works, the problems is AV or something similar.

Thank you for the reply.

ALL NZB's

My AV (ESET) has been the same for years. No other major changes to my PC, this problem started I believe since the last update. What is the best/easiest way to roll back? Will I have to delete all my appdata content and start from scratch? ***edited to add, I forgot that I troubleshooted this by turning the AV completely OFF, no changes.

I'll try this and report back as well.
Thanks again.

Tried the max value of 2000mb, no changes after a restart of the program. Only thing left to try is rolling back, but just want to make sure I do that properly. Do I need to delete the appdata folder and anything else?
-
To be sure. backup appdata folder and start fresh with that lower version. After try you can restore appdata and latest version.

So before I got your reply I tried 0.45.1 with the same appdata and everything was working normally again. Downloads and decodes automatically. So definitely a decoding problem for me with 0.46 I guess :-\
-
This is becoming more strange.....now some NZB's are hanging on decoding while using 0.45.1. Like before, after restarting alt.binz everything kicks into gear and the decoding begins and completes with unraring.
-
Hi, I got the same prob for some days
And i knew more people withe the same strange prob :/

If anyone wants help with that I can do it via teamviewer.

Just curious why the need for teamviewer? Any chance of just instructions on how to fix this?

If I knew what's the problem, I would give instructions...

Fair enough, I'm out of country until mid next week, I'll hit you up then for a fix when I get back to my desktop.

I have exactly the same problem. Tried different versions. There is no encoding until a restart of Alt.Binz. Very weird. Never had any problems ...

I'm back home now but I guess that offer is off the table?? Sounds like several are experiencing this problem. Any further updates?
-
I've have the same problem for a few weeks now. Hopefully there will be an update soon. That's annoying when you always have to quit alt.binz and restart it.
-
It's been quiet on this issue for awhile now. Any updates 'admin', anyone?
-
I have tried different versions but decoding just doesn't work anymore. The program is unusable for me at the moment. The strange thing is that it has always worked great! The different versions of the program have not changed. Could it be a Windows update that is causing the malfunction? Just my 2 cents...
-
The same by me....DL is starting...the files are decoding...inside the TEMP-Folder there are a lot of subfolders....after finishing the DL and decoding.....alt.binz stops .. nothing happens...not repairing or unpacking. After closing alt.binz and restarting alt.binz the last final process is starting (reparing & unpacking).
I have used alt.binz release 0.44.01 and 0.46.05 (which i normally use) to solve the problem. nothing helped. very strangely :/

The problem is that I cannot reproduce decoding problem myself. My main download machine is on win7 that hasn't been updated for at least 6-7 months. Development machine is on win10 that gets updated regularly. Both do not have problem with decoding.
Most of you are on win10 I pressume, but I've seen the problem on win8(.1?) machine.
-
I have tried 0.46.0.5; 0.44.0.1 and 0.43.0.2. ... the same results: to complete the final process (repair and unpack), alt.binz must be closed and restarted.
My System: WIN10 x64 / actual updated until today.
I dont know what I can do...the DL is starting....decoding is working from file to file ... the "status" has 0 percent - although 30% of all files are already downloaded.
A little bit confusing.
-
You mean decoding is not working?
-
I think, decoding is working!
-
I think, decoding is working!
If file stays on 'Decoding' and you never see progress or file disappearing from queue after decoded - then no, decoding is not working.
-
Hello everyone,
i have the same issue.
When i download a file, the progress is still 0%, but the download is working.
After the download i must restart AltBinz to extract the file.
Sorry for my bad english :-)
Greetings from Germany

Yes, my machine runs on Windows 10 1809 (17763.475) the latest update. I think it has to do with an update of Windows because it always worked perfectly!Decoding is not working. Sometimes it works for the first or first and second downloaded file and then it stops. This never goes on. Usually it didn't start at all. The download in the temp folder will continue as normal. The download progress indicator remains at zero even though it downloads all files in the temp folder. Perhaps Alt.Binz counts download, encoded / par ok as progress? Nothing else happens. After a restart of Alt.Binz, he encodes everything, checks the par and unpacks as normal. Hopefully the problem is clear now. If I have some time this week I will run an older version of Windows 10 in VMware Workstation to see if it works there. Hopefully I can help a little bit.Thank you very much for your efforts!

I am on 17763.437 with latest update and without decoding problem.
If anyone manages to make VMWare VM with existing decoding problem it would help if I could get it :)

Has anyone tried to run altbinz with compatibility mode?

Has anyone tried to run altbinz with compatibility mode?
Just when I had found a way to install each update separately in VMware (WU will go almost immediately to the last one) to find the relevant KB I just tried compatibility mode ....It's working! :)I now run Alt.Binz in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and everything works perfectly again. Encoding also goes as it should. Can someone else with this problem give it a try?

I did some testing.Started with the release build October 2018 (1809 17763.1) Alt.Binz is ok.
To prevent WU from getting the latest update, I use "wushowhide" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3183922/how-to-temendid-prevent-a-windows-update-from-reinstalling- in-windo
After the first manuel update kb4464330 (17763.55) everything still works fine. Then I think this will take a long time and decides to go to your current build.
After update kb4493509 (17763.437) everything works well.
After the update kb4501835 (17763.439) everything works fine.
After update kb4495667 (17763.475) everything works fine.
After the update kb44944441 (17763.503) everything works just fine.
So no, I cannot reproduce the problem in a virtual machine ....
-
i have tried the alt.binz.exe with compatibility mode WIN7 ... it is the same result....no decoding files.
-
Compatibly mode Windows 7 works fine . Download and decode of monkeyfiles now ok. i think it was an MS Update.
ty for the helpful discussion here

Hi,
Since a few days I have a new computer and I am having problems downloading an NZB file with Altbinz. some files remain Status Decoding, if I close Altbinz and restart it, it will continue. If I then check .par files, he says that half of them are missing and I cannot restore them. Have never had this problem.
-
I ran into this problem too.
Actually I was running an old version 0.44.3 but started having problems with it hanging on the login check at startup so decided to try upgrading to 0.46.0.5. That fixed the login hang, but then started this problem.
What would happen is maybe 1 file like a small .par2 would download and decode fine, then all the other files would be stuck in "Decoding" mode and never complete. I would exit altbinz and run it again and the files would all start going through Decoding after restart.
As suggested by some of the posters here, I tried setting altbinz to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode and that has solved the problem for me.
-
Here is link to a test version. Post results if this version solves problem.

IT WORKS FINE 8)
great job, Rdl !
-
Yes, it works perfectly! It seems to be solved. Thank you very much for your effort again. :)
-
Just tested, it actually seems to be working. Thanks
-
Did not test this version because i made the previous Windows 7 compatible, now I only suffer from files that do not come in completely and I have to download again and again
-
0.47.0 Appears to have finally resolved the non decoding issue my side. Thank you. Back to Altbinz rather than the alternatives. Thank you. :@)
