Windows 7 x64 Explorer and 0.31.5 goes unresponsive
« on: March 23, 2010, 11:09:55 am »
Hi

I don't know if this problem exists only on my client. It is not possible for me, to open an Explorerwindow while alt.binz is running. If I open an windows explorer window, the alt.binz application goes unresponsive and needs to be closed.
Is this a known issue or is there a setting I need to look at to fix this?

PS: sorry for my bad english. I do my best ;)

greetings from switzerland

it makes no different to open a explorer from altbinz or using Windows+E.

I have now deactivated the auto import NZB Folder in the altbinz settings and it looks like this fixed the hangups. Very strange...

the autoimport sometimes causes problems if it contains files that are not nzbs or ziped/rared nzbs

I use W7 64bit, and have not noticed this issue.  I will confirm when I get home.  My import folder does contain non NZB files.  I will clean out to avoid issues; thanks for the heads up.

Looks like the problem is still present. today i had about 100 hangups of the altbinz client. it is nearly unusable :-(
Is there any log or dmp that I could send you to help to find a solution?

Alt.Binz has a log, yes - see Log tab, enable detailed logging in Setup.  This may help to isolate what AB is doing when it hangs, at least.  There is also the Windows Event Log to check.

The connection with Explorer is curious.  Do you have any notable Explorer settings like libraries/virtual folders that deal with Alt.Binz dirs?  Indexing?

Thx for your answer. I will have a look at the event and application log. also I will check with filemon what happens. If I find a solution I will post it here.
It seems like it is a problem only on my rig or any interaction with any other software on it.

To your questions. I have no virtual folders. Indexing is deactivated because I use an SSD Drive.
Yesterday i temporary uninstalled my VMware Workstation which I need for my work. Maybe there will be a interaction with the network component. So I give it a try.

I uninstalled VMware Workstation 6.5.x and had no hangup or crash since there.
I will convert my VMware Virtual machines to Virtual PC as workarround.
Thx for your help.
