I modified my original question for clarity of purpose. Thanks for the help and patience.
Thanks for the help, guys..I think I may have mistakenly worded my question wrong(my fault). Heres what I hope to accomplish with the usenet experience:
1.)Download Binaries. This one is definitely why I became interested in newsgroups. The selfish nature of BitTorrent users is frustrating, so I jumped ship.(should've long ago!)
2.) I do enjoy reading the headers as half the time I have no idea what I am looking for and enjoy "window shopping"(there are so many bands, books, subjects, etc..that I have no idea about!)..but still want to use ALT.binz to download the binaries. Is there an app that is good for reading headers specifically?
3.)I want to be able to see all of the text-based posts (without binaries) and respond to them too, in an efficient manner, without clutter(maybe something is streamlined for this task..not posting binaries, but simply reading/posting text replies to newsgroups?
4.)..so what could I do to streamline these tasks? Downloading Binaries, Seeing all the headers, reading and replying to text posts on newsroups...what would be the best route to take? two seperate applications, 3?? Again, I love alt.binz for the downloading(and the massive pool of available groups)..but I have no idea which application is great for simply posting text, and which is best at simply getting all the headers!!
5.) is there a way, to say..maybe import all of the groups I want from ALT.BINZ into one of the other applications(Ive noticed that ALT.BINZ easily comes up with the most choices..newsbin had a fraction of them! to acquire headers from them??
6.) is there a way to identify which headers/binaries I want in one program and to somehow import those into ALT.BINZ for download?
Sorry to be confusing. I have read all of the guides, researched, etc..but this is an entirely new experience to me. I know how to grab headers, download binaries...and reply to posts,,but I do not know which program suits each task...Coming from a Military Intelligence career, I like things to be Concise, streamlined, efficient, and to always take the path of least resistance...if that means 3 separate applications , 2, or 4..it doesn't matter.I Just want results with minimum fuss. Most users are posting with (Yenc) PowerPost.

Obviously, Alt.Binz is great for binaries..it is easily the best program I have ever used for that task(I have , in the past , been an Acolyte of both Newsleecher and NewsBin Pro). I would like to look in to an additional application for the sole purpose of reading and posting text, and would appreciate any feedback from those in the know... Is using a separate application for each of the "main" newsgroup tasks commonplace and pain-free , or problematic? I am very, very one-track minded, as such, having the two functions isolated would be a tremendous help to me. There are so many choices available that without help filtering them...choosing could be quite daunting. Any help with suggesting a top notch reading/posting application would be very much appreciated. I will be donating this week. Keep up the good work, thanks for your time and help.

I still use Forte Agent 1.93 for text groups, because I paid for it a long time ago. I haven't found anything easier than Agent for text messages in binaries groups, using the free server 'news.readfreenews.net' because it's the only news server that has filtered all of the binaries out of alt.binaries.*, leaving just the text messages. I'm lucky to have a login password, but the operator of that free server no longer gives out passwords for posting rights, so reading from it and posting to another server would be the way to go. Newer versions of Agent, or Xnews or 40tudeDialog make this easier than what I'm using.

Let's keep it simple and start with efficient window shopping or browsing. Maybe you like a particular kind of music and want to check out new bands. The free index site www.newzbin.com has indexed music posts for you to browse. Search for a band you like, and click on the newsgroup name to see more music of that genre. You might miss an interesting newsgroup entirely unless you are led to it by browsing posts that have already been indexed. Browsing headers is tedious; I prefer browsing the index sites. If you have wandered around the Newzbin index site and you see a music post that you want, are you stuck about what to do next?

Browsing headers is btw easily done in alt.binz. Just go to the Newzleech tab, click search without any searchstring entered. Then choose a group from the dropdown next to it and choose Browse. Now you can check out all the headers you want.

I was looking for a "header/post" centric application primarily because I kept reading quotes like "Well, if you want to read headers, get this program, that one".or "I use Xnews when I want to read posts", "alt binz is not for reading headers" etc .yadda yadda. It seems as though many existing users haven't read the wiki either, considering that some of them actually made the aforementioned quotes.. :) As a new user, I follow where the old adopters lead me(before learning the ropes and doing my own thing)

What application did you choose for reading/posting text messages? Some Usenet binaries newsgroups are little communities which conduct active text discussions right in the newsgroup itself. Have you joined one of the discussions yet?

The wiki doesn't tell you how to participate in a newsgroup community by reading text posts and then posting replies to them, does it? Have you given up on that part of what you wanted to do? Taynen? Taynen? Where did he go?

Oops. Could not edit my last post which probably seems pretty abrupt.
I *did* see the "Using the Search" tab while browsing the group, just not from the link in this thread. If the mods edit the thread to point to the current location, the intent of the thread will be intact.
I have just moved over from XNews. The way the header downloads soaked up resources drove me here. At first I tried to do everything the XNews way but I see that is the wrong strategy. I am getting more familiar with the program every hour. I hope to read all the forums before posting my questions, some of which are already answered here.
Great program.
