connections and speed
« on: December 28, 2010, 02:39:17 am »
I am curious and have been looking for an answer to a (possibly dumb) question..

is there a 'sweet spot' where a certain number of connections is utilizing your bandwidth optimally?

I have 30 available connections and a 7MB DSL connection, I am wondering if I should use 10, 15, 20 connections for best results or does it even matter?
I was using 10 and bumped it up to 12 and then 15 without noticing any overall improvement.. it's back to 12 now.
I have always got what I consider to be my maximum speed for my connection but I am unsure if it's the most efficient way or if there is a better setup.

that is why I ask, I see no real difference and am curious about it.

thanks

Lowest number of connections that can max out your speed.

gotcha, thanks very much.

seems for me 10 is the magic number, I was fairly close after all.

TCP connection by design has small overhead. By eliminating n unneeded connection we're also freeing n*overhead which can be then used by remaining connections. However don't expect any major gains.
