Title: Glossy Icon
Post by: roland on November 17, 2008, 12:10:05 pm
Hello everyone.

I stumbled upon alt.binz yesterday. And your app already replaced my Newsleecher! But I think that the application icon is a no-go. So I created a quick mock-up of a glossy icon for my desktop. If anyone is interested, I could make an icon file that could replace the default desktop icon.

Best regards, Roland.

a shortcut icon is a deal-breaker for you?  ::)
seriously it's just an icon, it has no functionality other than being eye candy.. and 'cute'    ^_^'

It's not a deal breaker. As i wrote, I am already using alt.binz and I love it's functionality. But the default icon's design is actually not executed very well. And all I am offering here is a replacement Icon for those, that feel like me.

My icon ist not the best application icon, either. It's just a polished interpretation of the original one. I does not visually represent any of the applications functionality. And that is, what icons should do. They do not exist just to be eye candy. But that's just an user interface designer's opinion.  ;)

Looks good. If you can make a large version for it, you've got my vote.

as a rocketdock user, i'm always glad to have "cute" icons
If you enlarge that one, i'd be glad to use it

just wanted to say i'm using rocketdock as well and made this one a few weeks ago, just for myself:

it's not as shiny as roland's version but at least it's not pixelated :D

looking forward to seeing your icon in big, roland ;D

Little bit of a post bump here, but when I started using Alt Binz, I had the same dilemma. I've always leaned a bit to the OCD side so I searched for a while and found an Alt Binz logo for my RocketDock - This is the one I found, not sure of the creator so I cannot give credit... I DID NOT MAKE THIS!

i agree although its just an icon, a nice icon really completes the package. That is one reason i like uTorrent you can change almost every icon to something that suites you. ALTHOUGH i prefer alt.binz to newsleecher i would love to switch the icon and tray icon to the newsleecher icon. Or something i decided to make. Not just the shortcut icon.

maybe an op can help. I tried to replace the icon image for alt.binz with reshack and everytime i replace the mainicon and save the .exe it does not replace the icon and the program will not open correctly. Is there a reason this is not working? it works with other programs.
