General Usenet Observation/Question
« on: September 13, 2020, 09:10:55 am »
Has anyone else noticed the sudden disappearance of the regular tv show files, and by that i mean the ones that are less than 720p ?

Since about 2 weeks ago, 99% of searches of NZBs are now only returning 720p, 1080p or higher options, movies seem less effected, but when searching other places like torrents or http link sites, they are still there, but seem to have been culled from newsgroup servers.

I don't think this is down to AltBinz, but am not sure what's changed, anyone know? is it simply down to them not being posted to the newsgroups or what?

most of what you download are releases by what are known as scene groups, an organized but independent group of content providers/pirates.  A few weeks back, a major scene group got "busted" by the US FBI.  Since then, the other scene groups have been essentially laying low, as to not draw any unnecessary attention to themselves.  Things are, and will continue to, slowly coming back to normal.

ah ok, thanks for the info.... aware of the scene system ;) didn't know one of them got busted, that might or might not be the reasoning behind it, as some of the releases i'm talking about are still there on torrent or http upload sites (usually picked up from torrents and uploaded by individuals) but those same releases that have been available on usenet suddenly aren't, yet in some cases their 720p counterparts are, or other 720p and upwards releases are.

very frequently different groups release the standard definition release than the group that released the HD one.  Not always, of course.

That's some load of bull.
A "scene group" cannot be "busted" physically .. because it's not a group of real persons.
Like the Feds would raid some secret basement ... lol
But then again, that's what you would expect ... right?
" .. and then the Feds were like "BUSTED!" and all the other groups were like "WHOA!" "
c'mon ...
The closest them Feds can get to busting a scene group is: "Script was Terminated"
No, i can not elaborate further.

The reason why the releases went away is .. they didn't
Just because one can't see them, doesn't automatically mean ...

It's a counter-measure to 'something' that was changed recently.

Whenever you "visually" see News of some punks get hoisted by the Feds,
'Those' aren't part of the scene, ethically i might add, because their goal is profit
on a scale you wouldn't dare to imagine.

That's the only angle the Feds are (legally) able to pursue.
DistributionEnd<-large_scale->Money  |  Basic Criminals by Definition

The Scene though, has strict Rules - Ethics
