A thanks, your app, about donation thing...
Hi,
I registered yesterday to participate in the forum but I can't find a way to post. It seems that there is some "waiting period" for new registrants, I would guess. Is it so? I only see the Notify and the Mark Read buttons, can't see any other link to Reply to a thread or start a new one.
Anyway, the thing I would have posted would have been about your "donation" strategy and I would guess it would not be very welcome so I decided to write personally to you that seems to be the boss here.
What happens is that I installed your app and it _is_ a nice app but after searching for more information about how some things work, my opinion about the whole thing is not the best one. One thing bothers me and it is your donation strategy. See, you call donation for something that, in my opinion, is not a donation, it is a purchase. I don't like strategies that try to mislead people. Don't take my words wrong, I am just being very honest here.
You distribute a crippled, outdated version of your app for free. Still, it is a very nice app and, again, to be honest, it is serving me well. and I do thank you for that, specially because I have tried other apps, like the one that comes free with my subscription (very good for global search but not for anything else) and SABnzbd (and others) and none, except newsbin, seems as good as yours, even being as it is, lacking newer features (outdated) and the search function (crippled).
But it really annoys me to see you calling donation what is really a purchase. Donation is when you send some money not to get access to something that you would not, otherwise, but to send money for something that you already have and just happened to like it so much. Calling it donation is a trick, and I don't like feeling being tricked.
SABnzbd is also a great app but it started to give me some troubles, and after trying to figure out what was going on, unsuccessfully, I just decided to give up on it and then I tried you app.
Another thing is that even when someone "donates", there is very little info about what we are getting. You just say that we get access to the developer area, 3 copies, etc. but you don't say for how long the "contributor" will be getting the updates, there is no compromise on your part about a lifetime right for newer versions. It is left open to whatever the developer (hopefully you) wants in the future.
Let me compare to newsbin, the app that I liked most of them all but that offers no free version, only a limited trial period. They state that if you pay $20, you get a lifetime key for the app that will forever allows you to have the most current version of it. For $10 a year you then can add the search function.
In my case, I am not interested in search function. I do not find the stuff I need through inside-app searching, I found it through other ways. So, if I was to purchase your app, it would cost me 17 euros that is US$ 22 as of today, against $20 for newsbin. You do not explicitly guarantee lifetime access while they do. You trick people into this "donation" process while they don't, they simply SELL the key and that is it.
So, this is what I wanted to say. I know that I may sound ungrateful, but this is my way, I speak what I think. And again, I AM thank you for the free version, it does what I need better than all the other real free nzb apps and thanks to it, I will probably not buy newsbin, until I find some problem with your free version that I can't fix, since I started using it only yesterday (SABnzbd also seemed like the perfect app until it started giving me troubles some days later).
I hope you see my comments as constructive ones, for this is what I have intended.
Regards,
A.

It is me again
Your app freezes when I need to choose some folder (to load an nzb, for instance). It freezes for a while, like 10 to 20 seconds, then resumes without any problem. But the freezing is annoying.
Whatever I change in the Setup seems not to take effect until I restart the app.
I may be doing something wrong but if so, I don't know what. Apps are supposed to just work...
Thanks.

Re:It is me again
Solution: delete alt.binz and start using something else.
I won't go into discussion with you over the topics you suddenly got the urge to express to me. Most if not all are already covered on this forum.
I really don't care about your views, what works and what not, what freezes and what is annoying. Deal with it.

Re:It is me again
HA!
Of course you don't care, you are a trickster and you can't fool me, that is why.
Goodbye.
