Hi there,
Just been trying at least 10 news software and made my mind on this one which I find perfect for me so far.
I am planning on using newzbin as part of the search function and was wondering if anyone could send me an invitation ???

Even though you have to pay you need to be invited first by a member to access the service.

Wow didn't know you needed an invite. There was nothing on the News Page or Home page, but if you look under "My Account" there is a tab for "Account Actions" and you can "Invite New Member".
Had never seen that before. Guess they just started that here recently. Here's the Statement when you click the above tab:
"If you have friends you'd like to introduce, then what better way to send them an invitation via email?
We can automate this process for you - enter the email address you would like to send an invitation to, and they will receive an email with further instructions.
At this time you do not receive rewards/incentives for inviting users into Newzbin, but the fact that you have invited the user will be stored for future reference, and we may do some sort of credit reward system in the future :)
Please note, you are responsible for the people you invite to a certain degree. If any member you invite starts producing chargebacks or is found to be providing fraudulent card details, we reserve the right to ban both them and you - so please only invite people you know/trust. "
That last paragraph makes you want to think before inviting someone. But we will see...

Just out of curiosity:
Why r there so many people who want to pay for newzbin even though alt.binz has a whole bunch of great free search-engines build in. Or let me put it this way: what's so great about newzbin? What does it offer that others don't?

That was ages ago, the invite-only system is recent, though. :) I'm also curious to know why they went this way.
@ davidq666, that's an interesting question. Two things that stand out, I suppose: a very large and active community who are good at organising posts into easy categories; and the ability to create custom RSS feeds to fit any search criteria.

Well for me it was the first NZB site I found.
A few years back, I started messing around with Usenet again and saw that Usenet had made a BIG change from what I remember it from the late '80s and '90s. I was very confused and found Slyck's site and started reading. One of the help pages mentioned the NZB files and also mentioned a couple of NZB Sites that were available and of course Newzbin was one of them. Went there and have been there ever since.
If I had found Alt.Binz first, I probably would have never used NewzBin, because like you said, all the free search engines. And like Hecks said, Newzbin is very organized and have a bunch of people that report files very fast. But on occasion I have found items that I was looking for via NLSS before it was posted on Newzbin.
And believe it or not, due to the comments on Newzbin, I found Alt.Binz. Someone made a comment and left a link about Alt.Binz and I followed it and have not looked back. ;D

I suppose it's mainly because of the organisation and easy of use. I'm NOT try to say Alt.Binz is "UN"easy to use, but Newzbin is very slick.
You have a lot of people organising the posts into very useful catagories, they have done the donkey work and labelled each post with all the attributes, so that when I decide I want a "Xvid or Divx encoded movie, DVD rip or higher equivalent, no cams, with dutch subs (no thanks usually for me) of Movie XYZ" it really is as simple as "type,click,click,download".
Some simple things as well as say a URL link besides the post in question can be very useful in deciding if you've found the correct thing (yes I have heard of google - but I like being spoilt).
Also the comments section has saved me downloading Gigs of stuff in the past only to discover that it was either worthless or the release is flawed somehow.
The relatively strict moderating of comments AND granting of editor status to users is actually a breath of fresh air in this current internet climate of "gimme gimme, I can do it, I have a right to do this, I want, I need, do this for me" mentality of websites. Sometimes rules are good - and Newzbin shines in professionalism because of it. :)
There's no one item that stands above the others. It's a combo off all, and the outcome is a site that is greater than the sum of it's parts.
The fact that it costs around 20p a week is really neither here nor there at my stage of life, but I do remember a time when it would have been a consideration.
Try it, you might just like being spoilt for a change....

Bookmarking on NZB makes it worth the price. I've got a terabyte or too queued up to download over the next 200 days of retention. This is so useful. The comments and lables are sometimes pretty goo dtoo.

Anyone used both and so can compare them?
