Quick question for the devs
« on: July 07, 2009, 07:48:07 am »
Just wondering if there were any plans to add email notification to Alt.Binz (for start/completion of set, etc).  This is one feature that'd get me to donate and shift permanently from Sabnzbd+ I reckon.

Thanks, just curious ;)

I'm curious why you would find this useful.  To put it another way, what useful information would this email give you? If it's to check on progress of remote download, then ... how would knowing about it via email help you, given that there's no action you can take on it?  The mIRC plugin would probably serve this funcion better anyway, or RDP'ing to the machne, where you actually have a bit of control.

It's something I've gotten used to, and found handy, using Azureus over the years.  Basically, I'm in Australia, so when most of the US TV shows etc air, it's around 12pm here, and I'm at work.  I have RSS (etc) set up to autoload bits and bobs, and if I get an email saying "blah-de-blah completed successfully", well that's good :)  If I don't get said email, then I can Remote in and fix the problem, and the shows are ready for me when I get home.

Anyway, from your tone I guess I shouldn't be holding my breath :D  I'll stick with Sabnzbd+ for the time being.

LOL, implementing requests has nothing to do with me, I'm just asking questions and pointing you in the direction of what I think might be a better solution for what you want - remote alerts - in this case the mIRC plugin should fit the bill nicely.

I'm completely neutral on your request otherwise. :P

Edit: and actually, it can't be a request as such, as only contributors can make requests in the Requests forum.  So best if I just close it here before the natives get restless. ;)
