Speeding up the par2 process?
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:36:57 pm »
I was reading on the forum of Tweakers.net (the biggest dutch tech website), and I came across a topic of a different newsreader.
In that topic there's a part about speeding up the Par2 progress on CPU's that support HyperThreading or have multiple cores.
They claim that dual core CPU's achieve nearly 2 times the speed of the regular par2cmdline tool:

It is possible to use it with that other newsreader, but I was wondering whether it was possible with Alt.Binz too.
And when using a 64 Bit OS like me, I would prefer using the 64 bit of par2cmdline if possible, but will Alt.Binz be able to communicate with it, since Alt.Binz is written as 32 bit.
With nowadays newsserver isn't necessary as much as it used to be anymore, and the times I actually need it single core goes fast enough too, but if speeding is possible, why not give it a shot right? :)

Edit:
After some searching I figured out that Alt.Binz has support for this already build in, but is it possible to use the 64 bit rather than the 32 bit version?
