Windows 7 x64 - preventing hibernate/suspend
« on: December 22, 2009, 10:52:32 pm »
Can anyone tell me if versions newer than 0.25.0 prevent Windows 7 (x64) from suspending/hibernating due to inactivity?

With 0.25.0, my HTPC will hibernate after 60 minutes even if there are still files left to download in the queue.  It seems that Windows is unaware that Alt.Binz is still busy downloading and goes into hibernation mode.

As you can imagine it is very frustrating to come home and find there is still several GB left to download because the PC went to sleep before finishing.

I'm contemplating 'donating' 15 euros or more to gain contributor status and have access to an updated version, but other than this one annoying detail, 0.25.0 actually works perfectly as it is.

Thanks

I never tested it. But also never noticed any bug posts. Maybe someone could confirm this. Or just accept this as it is. :)

In 25.0 in both winXP and win7x64 my computer never sleeps if alt.binz is downloading. Even if the HDD fills up and the app pauses, windows doesn't sleep. If I close alt.binz. 20 min later it goes to sleep.

There must be a setting somewhere on your comp that is making it sleep. .

ok cool ive found it

control panel > hardware and sound > Power options > change power settings

have balance ticked then click change plan settings (highlighted in blue)

make sure the option for 'put computer to sleep' is NEVER

then your computer wont sleep and you should have no further problems!

thanks

My comp wasn't going to sleep when using alt.binz but it was going to sleep while I was watching video streaming from my PC.

Just an FYI but in windows 7 advanced power settings there is a "When sharing media" option under Multimedia Settings. Really saved me a lot of stress. Might help someone else out too.

I'm running 0.31.4 and windows 7 here. I schedule my downloads overnight and always put my pc to sleep before i go to bed. When i get up i find that Alt.Bins has woken up the PC, finished the downloads and prevents it going back to sleep afterwards. Happy with it waking up the PC but it would be better if it let it sleep again. All my power settings are ok by the way.

Tried the Shutdown button and settings in Setup > Misc#2?
