Very slow download speeds

Hi there,

A little help/advice needed.

I'm running the latest version of Alt.Binz through Newshosting. Previsouly I had been using Grabit, but changed as Alt.Binz offers download Sheduleing.

Seems like a good product, but for some reason my downloads speeds won't get past about the 40KB/S...meaning that a 600mega bite downloads takes about 7 hours! I had grabit running between 600Kb/sec (lowest) & 1.5mb/sec (Highest)?

My connection settings are as follows:

Max DL Speed: 8000kB/s
Delay BT connections: 10 seconds
Gloabl timeout: 30 seconds
XPAT: 300 seconds
Connected while idle: ticked

My server settings:
Name/Address: both correct
Number of connections: 1
Port: 119
Select group: unchecked
Article cmd: unchecked
SSL: unchecked
Added as primary.

I'm running windows XP PRO SP3 & have CA security firewall/Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware running, my modem is a Billion 7402L.

I thought that my firewall settings maybe the problem, but Grabit worked very well/fast using the same Port (119)...I haven't changed any settings for Alt.Binz.

Can anyone shed any light on this subject, otherwise its back to Grabit for me. I would really like to use Alt.Binz though...seems like a really good package. So if anyone has any advice I would love to here it, as i;m out of ideas.

Try increasing your number of connections, say, to 6. That should help.

Yeah...sorry, I should have said that I have tried that. Newshosting allows me to have 6 (on my current plan). But I’m still on getting down about 100kB/sec?

Is anyone else having this problem?  I would be interested to know what speeds people are achieving....and also if anyone has any advice as to how to speed up my connection.

try changing your port from 119 to 9000 or one of the other available ports, I doubled my speed after changing
