501 Bad Command Usage
« on: December 01, 2007, 01:42:22 pm »
Has anyone got this when connecting to usenetserver using SSL?  Already disabled firewall on my bthomehub, still no ljoy, have not changed anything, used to work fine then all of a sudden, stopped.  If I leave it trying to connect, maybe after a few hours or late at night it finally connectes but them one channel drops out from the ten allocated.

Anyone got any ideas what this error code means as I cannot find any threads about it!!

Not for sure if this has anything to do with your problem, as I couldn't find anything on the "Error 501, Bad Command Usuage" but did find this:

"Error Bad Command Usage is that the computer's network name or description is configured to an invalid or illegal name." What ever that means?

And also with Usenetserver had this on their front page and might also be a cause of the problem, but not for sure:

We have resolved the connection issues with news.usenetserver.com and you should no longer be receiving 400 errors.

The reposted statement below is still valid for SSL. According to tracking information that we received today, the new hardware should arrive tomorrow. Our plan is to get the new hardware racked up and in production by Friday evening. We apologize for the delay.

***** REPOST *****

Due to the overwhelming popularity for SSL connections, we have seen a sharp increase with connection requests over the last few weeks. Subsequently, we will be requiring additional hardware to handle the increased demand. The new hardware has been ordered and will arrive in a few days. Until we can get the hardware in production; you may receive connection errors while attempting to make a connection to our secure server, secure.usenetserver.com. You can connect to our non SSL servers by using news.usenetserver.com in the mean time. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you.

***** END REPOST *****

Maybe after they get all the bugs out of the hardware installation, you might not see this again...

news.usenetserver.com even when using this I get the 501 error.  Its very strange... Ill look into a little more to see if I can resolve this...  Will start from a fresh installation and see if I can then, install the windows updates and toake it from there, however does alt-binz use and references to net-framework 3.0 or 2.0, as im in the IT area this has caused issue before for me using SSL....

Come to think of it, I paid for usage and have had none since I paid, this is almost a month ago..  So what can I do about claiming back the time...  This issue has gradually got worse over the last few months..  the last month I have only connected once and took me all night to connect, then started to download and it stopped.  I dont really want to pay and have no use....  Im sure im not the only one either...

Im stumped........  HELLLLLLP

No .net crap is used. Under server properties what options are checked?

Just using SSL port 563 on secure.usenetserver.com 10 connections, and obviously my username and password.  If I change my password it says authentication failed. I know im connecting to the server cos the status changes accordinally, but Im getting thrown back with that error 501 Bad command usage..
