Alt.Binz 0.39.4 - "Not Responding" / Crashes
« on: March 18, 2012, 03:05:11 am »
No matter what I do, alt.binz freezes with a white transparent screen overlay and the lovely Windows spinning icon instead of the mouse pointer after only a few seconds of being open.

Ran chkdsk, and RAID verification on my pc. Windows 7 64 bit.
No detected issues.

Tried disabling MSE real time scanner.

Removed all traces of the program and re-downloaded it.

Still no go, and I have no idea what to do now. The program is completely unusable at this time.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Are you sure you've removed all config files? For 2 possibile location see FAQ.

Yes, all folders in User AppData related to Alt.Binz were removed...

I started totally fresh with a brand new download of the program from this site.

It was still a no go. :(

Is UAC enabled? Is there a 'misc' folder in the same folder as altbinz.exe

UAC is at it's Default level as of right now.

I have tried it set at both "default" and "never notify", with the same results.

There is no folder labeled "misc" in the same folder as altbinz.exe (should there be?)

There is a folder labeled "misc" in the appdata folder (C:\Users\..........\AppData\Local) for altbinz, but that folder or it's parent folder doesn't also contain altbinz.exe

No, misc folder shouldn't be there unless you're planing to keep config/queue... in the altbinz root dir.

Can you try 0.39.4 free version from the main page, just to eliminate authentication problems (although I see no problems in my log)

Ok, I removed all files related to altbinz again, and installed the free version of 0.39.4

Same problem as before is still happening. :(

As soon as you enter altbinz for the first time? You never get the chance to set up anything in setup?

It seems to depend on it's mood. Sometimes I can get into setup.

When I have got into setup, the only option I have changed from default is to put in my Astraweb account and password.

Sometimes I can start a download, (if I open it with the .nzb file for what I want to download) but it will stop responding rather quickly, and when I open the program again it has forgotten what it was downloading before it crashed.

The time it takes to crash can vary; sometimes it takes 10 seconds, sometimes 30. I've never had it open for more than a minute without it crashing though.

Could I possible get my money back?

With the program not working for me and no solution in sight, it seems reasonable to request that.

Please let me know.

Thank you!
