AltBinz hangs up, CPU Usage 100%
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:59:22 pm »
Hi,

I have a problem for two days now: After a few Moments (maybe 30secs) AltBinz uses 100% of CPU time (of one core, so it is actually showing 50%).
It hangs itself up, theres nothing I can do. It doesnt matter if it is downloading anything or is just running.

I tried to delete the old altbinz folder and downloaded the current version (0.31.1) again, to get a fresh start, but it also didn't work.
I tried to clean the registry to, but it seems that the configuration is still found.

I made no changes to my system that I know of. oh, yeah, and theres nothing on the log page.

Does anyone have a suggestion what to try?

Thany a lot,
Al

Try deleting config files from /users/user/appdata/local/Alt.Binz

Thanks for the fast answer, that was what I was looking for.

Finally found out that it must have been a nzb or a zip file I had in my NZB import folder, deleted all, now it works again.

If you could isolate that file and send it to me it would be nice.

Of course, I will try tomorrow if I can find out which file it was!

Sorry, can't mail you the file, cause it's quite big...

I had a .rar file in the NZB-import folder that was not only 200mb big, but also password protected and did not contain any nzb files.

my bad,
Lars

Ok, I'll try and reproduce it.

Hi Guys,

I have had this exact same issue, i tried removing all traces of Altbinz from my machine but the problem with the freezing continued to happen.

Now after disabling the auto import (i had my desktop set as the location for auto import nzb's) the freezing issue stopped.

Finally i can start my downloads again, it was a real pain.

My desktop is cluttered with any number of rars and files so it could be any of them.

I do believe and can confirm that this was the problem which caused the app to continue to freeze after around 30 seconds after the app was launched.

Perhaps this info can be placed somewhere for others to get easy access to.

The current work around is the disable the auto import.

Well, I would say that the more obvious workaround would be *not* to use your desktop as the autoimport folder (this is just asking for trouble).  Instead, create one just for NZBs (C:\NZB) and make a shortcut on your desktop to drop stuff into it.
