Auto-unrar issue
« on: July 26, 2010, 07:58:07 pm »
Hi,

Every now and then, alt.binz completes a download but doesn't actually unrar it. The PAR2 tab shows a repair was done (yellow PAR2 icon with red cross, "Repair Successful" under the Progress column), but the files were not actually unrared (the icon in the unrar column has a red "x" on it, and no files appear in the unrar folder). I looked in the download folder, and the small PAR2 file is present (the download queue also shows the other PAR2s as paused).

If I expand the item in the PAR2 tab, it shows that all the RAR parts were downloaded (all green), but for some reason a piddly little file like an SFV is missing (red, 0 of 1 blocks downloaded). I looked at the contents of the NZB, and the SFV is included. If I check the alt.binz log, it shows the SFV was started, finished, and decoded, so I don't know why it would show up as red in the PAR2 tab? I don't think the SFV file was actually present in the download folder...

I can always right-click on the item in the RAR2 tab and manually unrar it, but it annoys me that the absence of an SFV causes alt.binz to skip the unrar step. Why does it work like this? The SFV file has nothing to do with the RAR file.

Is there any way to get alt.binz to unrar automatically even if some file unrelated to the actual RARs is missing from the collection?

The short answer is that it *won't* skip the unrar step in 99.9% of cases when it needs to repair something, including missing files.  You should look in your Log for an explanation of why this happened in your case.

As for why it's looking for the SFV at all, well, this is a question to ask the poster: why did they include the SFV in the par set?
