Downloads, PAR2 files and repair status
« on: November 23, 2009, 07:38:36 pm »
Hi,

Pardon my ignorance, but after a download "finishes" (progress bar at 100% and greyed out, all parts of a .RAR archive cleared from download queue, the small PAR2 file downloaded, larger ones remain paused), how long does alt.binz wait before beginning any required repairs using the PAR2 files? I've seen items in red on the PAR2 tab, expanding them reveals one or more damaged parts, but alt.binz just seems to sit there and not start repairs, and the Repair option is ghosted out if I right-click on the affected .PAR2 item. But if I walk away for some time, when I come back, the PAR2 tab then often shows "Repair successful" or "repair failed".

So again, how long does alt.binz wait? Is there any way to speed up the process? Is this affected by the setting for "Article not found" errors under the "Connections" section in the program setup? (e.g. does it wait until all retries for missing articles have been exhausted before beginning a repair?)

Also, I find that if any parts of a RAR achive are missing altogether (so that repairs aren't possible with the available PAR2s), I never see any repair progress at all under the PAR2 tab. Shouldn't it at least notify me that there isn't enough PAR2 data to attempt a repair???

-there is no waiting period after last article is decoded only par-checking
-yes u can if u are terribly unpatient u could watch the par2 tab and unpause the min. amount of repair-par2 needed manualy even before the download finishes
-yes it does retry each article before decoding thus also before par-check and repair
-nope there is no such notification, but it does note it down in the detailed log...
