Like I said, the installation file for my Alt.Binz 0.25 and the uninst.exe in the install directory is detected as infected with a worm by AVG 7.5.

It's saying "Virus identified Worm/Generic.IMQ"

I didn't notice this before but it has been a while since last scanning, what's the probability that it's just an AVG error? Where could I find the correct MD5 sum for my uninst.exe? I'm sure for the intall file it's on the website, so I'll look there.

Otherwise I guess I'll re-download it and see if I get the same error.

Now I'm just a little bit worried.

I tried using winMD5sum to check the MD5 of my AltBinz installer, but it just says "invalid file"??

I deleted all those files that were infected anyway, and I'm going to re-download the installer and see if that's picked up as clean.

Is this kind of thing common enough? Could a worm have attacked me through Alt.Binz, infecting only the uninst.exe and the installer on my HD but not the actual program file itself?

Alt.binz installer on the website does NOT contain a virus.

I was sure that it would be clean from the website.

I re downloaded it and as it finished the infected file was detected again. BUT, just after that a new AVG update became available, which I did, and now it is no longer detected as infected. So it looks like a false positive.

Plus I submitted the file to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and it reported nothing.

Honestly, do you think if the installer or anything to do with Alt.Binz 0.25.0 (10 months old now) contained a virus, it wouldn't have been reported before?

The golden rule: think twice, post once.
