Title: Can only download one thing at the time
Post by: Eskeman on October 18, 2009, 11:01:50 pm
Hi

New to this forum and Alt Binz.

Have Alt Binz installed on two computers, it's the 0.31.2 version. One OS is Vista other is XP.

On my XP installation, it will only download one thing at the time, but on my Vista I can easily download multiple items at the same time. I have an SSL connection and have set the number of connections to 20 on both machines.

What am I doing wrong?

First of all, define "thing".  If it means collections in the queue, then Alt.Binz will only download one at a time.  If it means articles (i.e. file parts), then each thread will download one.  Press F9 to show connections panel.  How many threads do you see?  Status messages? Log errors?

If only one thread, make sure you clicked Apply when changing number of threads on Setup -> Server.

Yeah, I did mean collections (Subjects in the download queue, right?). Thought it was possible to download several at the time? But it's only downloading one file part at the time too, despite of the 20 connections. I checked the number of connections again and it is set to 20.

Restarted Alt Binz but no help there.

As I said, Alt.Binz will only download one queue item at a time, but as many articles within those items as you have threads.  Press F9 to see exactly what articles are being downloaded by which threads.

Remember the hierarchy goes: collection (aka NZB) -> file (e.g. .rar) -> file part (aka article or segment, e.g. part X/Y of .rar).

nope no reader i know of works that way

But it's only downloading one file part at the time too, despite of the 20 connections. I checked the number of connections again and it is set to 20.
...
and thats the way it should work! each connections grabs one block of one file and starts downloading and an other one after finishing the first. a file usualy contains 100+ blocks so most of the time the reader downloads multiple parts of one file.

more connetions are usualy used for a more stable downloadspeed not for simultaneous download of multiple files/collections.
there is no need for help because there is no problem.
