Decoding is slow after upgrading to 0.44.0
« on: June 09, 2017, 08:15:38 pm »
I just upgraded from the free version to 0.44.0, and I'm noticing the decoding is taking a very long time.  I did see the other thread with a similar problem that was resolved by adding exceptions to Windows Defender.  I've added both the download and the temporary folder locations to both Defender and my Antivirus' exception lists but it did not make a difference.  I also did not have the decoding speed problem when using the free version.

What else might be causing this problem?

I did some testing by trying to download the same sized files using the same settings but with version 0.39.4 vs 0.44.0.  The same 200MB file takes about 5 seconds to decode on v0.39.4 where as the same 200MB file takes about
19 seconds on v0.44.0.  As you can see in the bottom screenshot, those long decode times are with no active downloads going - it's only decoding.  The tests were, of course, done on the same machine.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's the screenshot:

Teamviewer session?

Are you saying you want to take a look using teamviewer?  If so, I am available starting 6pm EST.  Thank you.

I just got done with Rdl assisting me over Teamviewer to figure out why I was having decoding speed issues.  I must admit, I'm embarrassed that I didn't catch it first.  The problem was the power plan setting in Windows.  It was previously set to Balanced, instead of High Performance.  I must have done my prior testing with different programs running in the background that was throttling the CPU in one scenario and driving the CPU higher in another.

Thanks again, Rdl, for going the extra mile to support your users!  :)

Mark this one as solved!
