How does one START the RSS thing working?

I've read the wiki and believed I've followed all the instructions.   Nothing's happening. 

Let's get this out of the way: is this supposed to allow me to automatically select posts containing a string of characters and automatically download them or is it something else that I'm not getting?

I've selected the RSS tab and it's the one window visible.  I don't know if you need to *keep* it visible for it to work, so I'll leave it there until I figure this out.

Selecting one of the default RSS feeds, I've refreshed the screen, and a whole bunch of stuff comes up on the right side, so that's working.

Now, on the right side, along with everything else, the 5th to 8th listings are titled: "Hawaii.Five.0..."

For testing, I put:

*hawaii* | A

...in the filter list, nothing else. 

Nothing happens.

I have "timer" clicked down.  Nothing happens.

Do I press another button or something to get it going?

The system hasn't "selected" anything.  Nothing happens.

-Refresh list, confirm that there is "Hawaii.Five.0..." in list. Now MAKE SURE you clear the list (right click on the list and then clear or CTRL+Del on the list).
-Now put in filter list: *hawaii* | A
-Now click on timer so it lights up(enabled). List will refresh, everything will be red except items that are filter match. Those will be green and should appear in queue.

The important thing is to realise that white items on the list (after simple refresh) are not matched against the filters, so in your case you should have waited for new "hawaii" item to appear as new before realising if your filters work. Method above just allows you to test them within few seconds.
