Completed Downloads
« on: August 02, 2008, 01:49:21 pm »
Hi guys, Im having difficutly with Newbinz when its completing downloading a file. For some reason it's completing the download (100%) and MOST of the time it doesnt extract the file to the specified directory. I understand about the days thing, most of the files im downloading are under 100 days old etc.

Some of the completed downloads work and extract correctly, but others dont work and I dont know how I view/open them. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

And what exactly is "Newbinz" and why is this question posted on Alt.Binz forum?

my guess is Newbinz is a wordplay by a german member since alt=old and new is obviously the opposite

The answer to these questions will be in:

1) your Log
2) your Download directory

Check 1) to see what Alt.Binz has been doing, check 2) to see what Alt.binz has downloaded.  Report back here on both.

Without this info, there's little that anyone here can do to help you, beyond making a wild guess.

(newsbins is like a search site i use for usenet)

There are no files what so ever! The downloads are downloading by the looks of things, cause its taking a good few hours at a time, but then nothing gets extracted/completed to the unrar folder? Only a few have seemed to work.

Im not sure what im looking for in the log, so I've uploaded it for you to take a look at!!

Well, Alt.Binz seems to have done its job here:

[PAR2&Unrar] season6.par2 needs 182 more blocks, 304 available
[PAR2&Unrar] season6.par2 unpaused 190 blocks

but then had problems later:

[PAR2&Unrar] season6.par2 needs 68 more blocks, 114 available
[PAR2&Unrar] season6.par2 unpaused 76 blocks

and later:

[PAR2&Unrar] season6.par2 needs 68 more blocks, 38 available

And then nothing was repaired and unrared.  Are you sure there's nothing at all in your download folder (not the unrar folder)?  It should be full of .rars.  Check also the PAR2 tab to see the current status of the PAR2 repair/unrar.

My suggestion is to forget the mammoth season downloads from a.b.boneless (and iND posts at that) for now, and troubleshoot with something smaller from a reliable source.  Then at least you'll be able to narrow down the problem.

Edit: btw, personally I would never try to download posts like this, since the poster is a) too retarded to name the files properly (e.g. there are two season6.par2 ), b) too retarded to use a proper subject line that actually gives you useful information about what is being posted, c) too retarded to split the season into separate episodes with their own .par2s, and d) too retarded to post outside of .boneless.  I certainly wouldn't try to download three whole seasons from the same quadruple-retard poster.  There's a *lot* of crap on usenet, do yourself and your bandwidth a favour and be selective. ;)
