How to start downloading?
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:07:06 pm »
:?:  Hello everybody. I am not only new here but also completely new on downloading from newsgroups. I managed to install this nice-looking program and also succeeded in receiving 2 NZB-files, neatly placed in a fresh downloadfile. In the downloadqueue of Alt.Binz I see the 2 items I want to download of which I have these NZB-files. But nothing happens!!
Of course not, you would probably say. But that's because you know what to do next. I don't, so . . . . please tell me. (I looked around on this site but couldn't find anything, no step-by-step program for dummies (like me   )

I presume you have news access?

Did you add your news server to server list via setup? Is it enabled?
Did you pressed connect? Connection visible? If not server is not defined.

If you don't have news access try this test server (very fast, but not so good retention)

address:  news.easynews.nl
port:       119
max. num of connections: 8
username  beta@easynews.nl
password: beta

Hi Rdl,
Your guess was right, I had no server added.
Now I have, my providers server and your beta server.
I pressed connect and in de lower section of my screen now I can see both the servers but below 'Action' there's scrolling 'could not connect, retry in .. seconds'

Tried another server and getting closer.
It connects, tries to start the download but keeps returning with 'statuscode 480'

480 means server requires authentication. So go back to setup->servers, dblclick server to display its properties, check Authentication and then enter username&password and then click Replace data(new data to be saved) After that it should work. Try it with easynews.nl, that one works if you don't have commercial account

I'm a total n00b to this stuff too, but just wanted to know if I'm also allowed to use the above details.

Thanks

Yes, as the easynews.nl service is still in its beta phase, access is free (for now).
