When using newsbin, I have a download speed of 8-9 Mbit down.
Using alt.binz it doesnt get higher than 256 kb/s.
Using 3 threds on both applications (not a the same time (duh). Want to use full bandwidth for downloading on newsgroups (12-13 MBit down/ 1024 up) with alt.binz with the same speed of newsbin.
How do I set my alt.binz correctly?

Plz help.

maybe get a better newsprovider?

i can recomend www.usenetserver.com

cheap, unlimited & SSL

i have 8mbit connection, and am always maxxed @ 834kb/sec (10 threads)

it could just be your either your newsprovider caps/throttles their bandwidth, or maybe your internet provider throttles nntp traffic?

does your newsprovider have an alternate port?

Again, If all settings are identical (threads, newsserver, date, (almost same) time), why do i get less download speed with alt.binz than with newsbin?
Plz dont answer with good ment jokes, i really want an answer how to set alt.binz right. I'd rather use this program, but if the download speed decreases that much, alt.binz is no practical alternative.

What is your maximum download speed set at under setup/connection?

max speed

My max speed is set to 50000 kb/s (setting it higher manually, the program makes it this value). My real internet connection has 12000 kbps downstream and 1029 upstream.

The correct setting for a 12Mb connection is 1500 kB/s.  The program wants you to input the actual bytes of your connection not bits.  So, If you are inputting 50000 in the max download speed setting you are basically telling the program your connection speed is 50000 kiloBytes/second (or 400Mbps) which might be confusing the program.

Also if you have an antivirus program, it might be slowing down your download speed (scanning the files as you download).

If neither one is the cause, I don't know what to tell you.

Well, here's my story:

I have a 25 Mbit downpipe (3.44MBps)
I am using usenetserver.com - max of 10 connections.

I have configured Alt.Binz as follows:

Configured max-download speed at 7442 KBps
Set my server for 10 connections

However, I seldom see a download speed above 900KBps now.. for a while there I could get it above 1800, but that quickly stopped (though I didn't change any settings!)

Any suggestions?

As I expected, setting the max download speed to 1500, no increase in download speed is reality. More a further decrease of it (not higher than 150 kb/s). So this suggestions doesnt work either. Any one else?

Also disableing the antivirus is no working option either. Tried it, but no increase in speed.

And FYI, I have tried other newsgroup applications - 2 in particular do work at my top speed (I'd use them, but they suck compared to alt.binz) so I know it is possible.

Another setting to check is on the Setup/Miscellaneous/Start/Speed Limit.  Make sure it is set to No limit.  You can also left-click in the lower left corner of the program window to change the speed limit.

What is the average speed of each thread connection?
Have you tried disabling one or two threads to see what happens?

Still no luck with that... interestingly enough I did manage to nearly double the speed though by playing around with my wires... I have cat5 cable (sadly) intertwined with power cables... this is likely a large cause of the problem.

each thread is has a throughput of 75-80 kb/s. Total varies of 210-220 kb/s. One thread less means a loss of 75-80 and a total of 140-150 kb/s.
