I downloaded 0.39.4 and for a few days it worked fine. However, something went wrong.
I hadn't used it for a day or two and when I started up this morning it asked for my login and password, which normally is an automated routine.
I entered them and the response was "All OK. Restart Alt.Binz". which I did. On restart the login pop-up did not show at all and pressing the "Connect" button gives no reponse what so ever.
I recreated the news server from scratch and cleared login and history. No response.
I deleted the altbinz.exe and re-installed, which on start-up asked me for the login and password for authentication again. Same response and same result on re-start, i.e. nothing is happening.
What did I do wrong?
Help please.

Recheck your login info. The behavoir you describe usualy occurs if you enter the wrong login info. Did you change your forum password recently?

I did not change my forum login and password at all. I used it to log into the forum to write these posts.
Again, the "Response" to the login and password is "All OK. Restart Alt.Binz".

Based on the log where I see multiple logins in short period of time I would say that you've setup your firewall wrong.
I can only explain this if you have allowed altbinz to contact server but denied to receive response.

First of all, I am not a "techie", just a user. I have no idea about any firewall setup. What I can say is that between it working and nopt working, I never touched anything except:
1 - I deleted and recreated the server in "Setup"
2 - I re-installed AltBinz.exe
3 - I restarted my PC
4 - I cleared "Login" in Setup
All of the above several times and in different order.
Also, when in the past I could not connect (FE my Internet connection had droped), at least I could se some activity in the Bottom window "# - Action - etc.). Now there is noting showing at all.

I need more info. When is the last time you tried.
I have this 3 as last in the log (CET times):
2012-01-25 13:45:52
2012-01-25 14:04:21
2012-01-25 14:22:14
All 3 were first checks (the one you must enter your username/password)
- if those 3 were not your last tries running alt.binz then something is blocking alt.binz from contacting server
- if those 3 were you last tries then something is preventing altbinz from writing your verified login data (in that case try deleting all your config files - for location check FAQ in new Alt.Binz version section)
Since all troubles started when you switched from 0.39.2 to 0.39.4, my bet is on firewall/AV that ties rules to hash of executable file. You created rules for 0.39.2, but when you switched executable to 0.39.4 it has started preventing proper connection.

That also did not do anything, but got it working again. Not sure what did it but this is what I did:
1 - Deleted altbinz.exe
2 - Deleted complete altbinz folder in _user_\apdata\local
3 - Re-installed 0.94.2
4 - Configured server. This worked and everything was back to normal :) (i.e. Automatic Authentication check at start up). Connected fine.
5 - Deleted altbinz.exe
6 - Installed 0.94.4
7 - Whoopah :)
