Getting Throttled?

Astraweb/Altbinz 33.2/Time Warner (socal)



I download off astra @ 1.7-1.8mb/s constant. This never varies more than 100kbps. When I first connect to the server my connection spikes up to 2.8mb/s and then over the span of 10seconds trickles down to 1.8. I've tried every single port offered on astra. This includes both SSL ports 443/563. Regardless; all the same speed. The same goes for using astra's euro/us/default servers. All the same speed. My max download speed setting in altbinz under connection is at the maximum and I've tried varying my # of connections. No difference. 1.8 all the time.

Is there anyway I can get around this? It's frustrating having such a fast internet connection for my area and not being able to fully utilize it. Is there some conspiracy w/ my Up being 1.8 and downloading at 1.8? IS THIS A NUMBERS CONSPIRACY MYSTERY THRILLER STARING JIM CAREY?!

to see wether ur isp is throttling u.

u can also try an other usenet provider to see if astra is your problem, if so contact their support to see what can be done.

Running your test now.

I tried an account w/ giga using their "diamond" subscription utilizing their VPN. Actually made my speed 50kbps slower. Go figure.


edit: ran it. says no indication of shaping of traffic on usenet test

Isn't that feature of the roadrunners power boost?
And since it "boosts" your connection speed in first few seconds - it will fool speedtest.

You're totally right. Completely forgot about that retarded function. Now I have to figure out how to get a prolonged test that goes longer than 2 seconds.
