connection failure in version 0.25.0
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:08:55 pm »
Hi everybody,

I'm currently using Alt.Binz 0.25.0 which is a wonderful program.
I never had any problems connecting to my newsserver up untill about 1,5 weeks ago when a connectionerror appeared which i've never seen before

(date erased because irrelevant) +  [T4] Could not connect (EDP2) 481 Failed connection to netblock restricted feed 'edpnet.net'

I called my internetprovider and they claim that they can connect to the same newsserver (provided by them)  using my username/password without problems using the "grabit" program.
the answer i recieved was that i needed to remove the 'edpnet.net' feed (???).
needless to say i found not one clue as how to handle this.

What did happen was when i removed and re-entered the SAME password i use for the connection, then the connection actually worked again.
Shutting down Alt.Binz and restarting the program 2 days later prompted the same errormessage and it stayed this time.
Re-entering username/pass did not change the situation.

Remember, the helpdesk-person said he could connect to the same newsserver using my username/password combination with another program (grabit) so i'm totally in the dark as to what may have caused this issue to begin with.

I checked firewall and antivirus settings and found them unchanged where permitting the Alt.Binz program to access the internet was concerned.

So i turn to you for advice and help please,
It will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Andy

I'm sure it's not alt.binz related problem. Why not download grabit and confirm that.

Remember, helpdesk person is  99% not  using same netblock as you.

My guess would be this: your internet provider acquired new IP range and forgot to allow it to nntp server. So, once you get IP in old netblocks - you can connect.

 Hi,

First off, thank you so much for your quick reply  :)

I rebooted my router, downloaded Grabit, saw that the connection indeed worked and re-entered my account in Alt.Binz.
Also, reconfigured my router for dynamic ipranges.
And guess what, all is up and running again  :D

I have restarted Alt.Binz about 5 times now and it still works ;-)

Thanks again,

Grts,

Andy

I think you're confusing private and public IP

Your previous IP (nntp connection did not work) - d54C686AA.access.telenet.be [84.198.134.170]
Your current IP (nntp works) - 213.219.151.230.adsl.dyn.edpnet.net [213.219.151.230]

actually, what i also noticed was the strange iprange my router picked up.

i changed the ipsettings so the router would only connect to my own isp.
turns out for whatever reason my own connection timed out (forgot to check to keep the connection alive) and my router switched to whatever connection was available in the neighbourhood  :-\

bad router  ;)

so of course my usenetserver which is provided by my own isp is not available when connecting through another network.
i figured that out after resetting my router and downloading and loading my account details and stuff.
the latter part was of course unnecessary but i see this as an opportunity to learn.

thanks for clearing things up for me.
i'm liking this forum more and more  :D

grts,

Andy
