Multiple configurations for same server
« on: September 24, 2008, 12:37:23 pm »
Hi

Don't know if this is possible but....

I use a secure newsgroup server which sometimes gets a bit confused and refuses connections on the standard port (443).   Most times, I can change the server setting to use a different port (563) and continue to download.  Is is possible to have 2 server configs in alt.binz for the same server but with different port connections that will automatically try both if a connection cannot be made ?

Thanks

NC

you can save both by making a new Entry in setup -> server

edit the current one, select a different name, then add as primary. You still have to change the servers manually by selcting/deselecting  and reconnecting them.

You can try to add the second configuration "as backup" but i think the backup is only used when a file is not found on the primary server and not for connection issues

thats right using the second as a back up won't work coz' the back up will only jump in if the file's not found. the only thing you can try which might work would be to set configure both as primary to share the the allowed connection between both servers. best case would be both work and if one fucks up at least you have half of your connections left to go. worst case and more likely i am afraid is that both get confused all the time. but might be worth a try...

The solution for david is very good, if you get full speed with only half the number of connections. Only problem is: if one server fails those connections will be stuck, that means for each connection one part of the actual file is not downloaded. However you can simply deactivate the failing server as soon as you can see that and reconnect to the the working one and the stucked files will be completed.

Btw, best solution would be to get a decent provider ;)
