altbinz & grabit set up help
« on: November 24, 2008, 07:11:11 pm »
Can someone help me set up altbinz, i have configured it exactly the same as my grabit account (which works perfectly) but iust cant seem to get it working. I have allowed altbinz access through my firewall.

I dont understand why it works with grabit & not alt.binz

I have added my username & password. I have also added the server name. I have also followed the how to guide on setting up the server details

I use Windows vista, zonealarm pro, and avast antivirus.

I have allowed alt.binz access through my firewall and i have also turned off the antivirus, but still get the same results.

I am using alt.binz version 0.25.0

What happens when you ping eu.usenet-news.net, and/or try another port number and/or try another server and/or temporarily switch off your firewall completely?

(if it was an authentication error you should see that in the Connections panel and log, but in any case make sure you haven't accidentally cut/pasted any spaces anywhere)

The ping is successful

C:\Users\Mitch>ping eu.usenet-news.net

I can telnet into the domain on port 119 & 8080

C:\Users\Mitch>telnet eu.usenet-news.net 119
Connecting To eu.usenet-news.net

200 (newsfe23.ams2) Welcome (newsfe23.ams2) (Tornado v1.2.3.534)

But i am unable to telnet into ports 563, 465 & 23

C:\Users\Mitch>telnet eu.usenet-news.net 563
Connecting To eu.usenet-news.net...Could not open connection to the host, on port 563: Connect failed

C:\Users\Mitch>telnet eu.usenet-news.net 465
Connecting To eu.usenet-news.net...Could not open connection to the host, on port 465: Connect failed

C:\Users\Mitch>telnet eu.usenet-news.net
Connecting To eu.usenet-news.net...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed

However when i place port 119 or 8080 into the server setings, it still does not connect.

OK,

The problem was my firewall. Even though i have allowed alt.binz all privileges in the zonealarm pro config, it would not work. I closed zonealarm and it started to work.

Now i have restarted zonealarm, alt.binz is working fine.

Looks like it was a firewall corruption.

Thanks for your help.
