Title: Help with obfuscated files
Post by: Alphaelectric on January 20, 2021, 10:10:32 am
Noob here and I am sure this is something that you folks have solved already.

I have setup altbinz successfully and checked all settings against the quick start guide. The one thing I can't seem to solve is the filename obfuscation. Everything is garbled and only file extensions are correct. Most files I download look like this:

abc.xyz.234234234234.extension

If it's only a few files I can rename them manually. If they are part of a series, I'm stuck because there is no telling what is what.

I re-imported the nzb again and the collection doesn't show par2-files, only content. Is this part of the reason?

Yes, for deobfuscation par2 is needed. You should check with text viewer nzb file and verify if there is par2 files at all. What's the source of nzb files?

Hi there,

thanks for the help. The file is from nzb.su.

Cheers

Checked the nzb and it seems the upload is missing it. There is no par2 information at all.

Other files do have it, so it's not related to nzb.su.

Rare thing. Too bad, would have been nice....

There is a long forum thread on nzb.su about the abc.xyz renaming issue.

nzb.su has lots of posts from scriptzteam / wtf[nzb] that are posted this way on purpose with no par2's or even an sfv. But 14 days ago in their forum, the nzb.su admin claimed that the latest beta of sabnzbd should be able to rename these posts.

this should be working in latest beta of sabnzbd now

I don't use anything but Alt.Binz, so I cannot confirm if this is true.

@Alphaelectric: This is your thread. Are you able to supply Rdl with what he is requesting above?

@Rdl: Only paid users have access to the nzb.su forum. So, would the link to the forum thread do you any good? Or would a (large) screenshot of the thread be better?

Fixed in new version.

Note that these posts are junk and waste of space and traffic. Stupid "obfuscation", no sfv/no par2, retarded naming. Also, I have nothing good to say about sites that distribute them.
Recomendation to stick to well known good sites.

Thanks to sidbib for extensive testing.

Hi RDL, sorry for being much too late to respond. I just updated to the new version after having another post (through nzb.su) that is apparently bad. HUGE THANKS! The fix works and it helps a lot!!!

Hi
Does this still work? A recent nzb file with abc.xyz.xxxxxxxx file names (no sfv/par2) is not being renamed with the latest version 0.47.3.6
Should there be an option to do this or it will just work?

The par files are essentially the instructions on how to rename.  No par, no rename.  Not a client issue.

The fix Rdl implemented back in 2021 did not require par files (since the nzbs in question didn't contain them).

Maybe something has changed in their posting / nzbs since then. Unfortunately I no longer have a working nzb.su account so I cannot test their nzbs as I did previously.
