Newzbin - authentication failed
« on: August 04, 2008, 07:50:02 am »
I've set up RSS for Newzbin feed, and every couple of days i seem to be getting the following error, and obviously the feed is gone:

"Error Authentication failed- username/password changed? You will need to get a new feed link for the feed to work again"

Thing is i haven't changed my user/pass details at these times.

Any ideas ? I've followed all instructions for getting the feed to work - and it DOES work for a day or 2 until it stops (havent figured exactly when it stops).

thanks

This is really something you need to take up with Newzbin, I guess, since it's their authentication system.  I assume you have the same problems outside of Alt.Binz?

Newzbin really is the worst option for RSS feeds IMHO, and with all of its current 'issues', my advice would be to stay away.  Try instead: http://www.nzbs.org.  Once you've logged in, click the RSS link at the bottom and read the instructions for setting up direct downloads.  It's automated (no user posts) and has fewer feed customization options, but it has a proper naming system and so is better for Alt.Binz RSS filters.  And it's free. ;)

I've actually previously used NZBsRUS but when my subscription ran out I figured i'd try to use Newzbin, and lo-and-behold it worked - just not for long   :(

I will try nzbs.org, but are they as up to date as the others ? I'm not sure if they are ..

Thx

Nzbs.org is automated, so it follows whatever's posted in the groups and doesn't rely on user posts.  This has advantages and disadvantages.  There's a necessary delay on the RSS to ensure stuff is completley filled, for example.  The interval is different for types of post - it can be a couple of hours for x264, for example.  So this is one to use if getting stuff straight away isn't an issue for you - but you'd probably want to search for it in that case anyway. ;)

Is there an option on Nzbsrus to stay logged in permanently?  If not, your cookie could be expiring.  If yes, log in with that option and get the new cookie info.

As ever, the best place to go for site-specific info is the site itself. ;)

Sorry for my ignorance - but can you explain what i need to look for at the site ? It doesn't say much on the rss page ...
I am permanently logged in btw, as far as i can see - i dont have to login whenever i go to the site.
