How to not download duplicates with RSS?
« on: December 11, 2010, 10:51:20 pm »
Hey guys, Ive searched around a lot now and cant find any answer to this question!

I want to use the RSS filter to download shows as they are released but I don't want it to download the same show twice, cause the same show is often released by different groups within hours of each other.
I want to download the first release, then skip all releases of the episode after the first one. I could do this by setting a filter that only download the release from one group, but its not always the same group that releases the show first and in my experience all the groups releases perfect versions, so I only care about getting file that is released first. Is there any way to do this?

Is it for example possible to tell the filter that after it has downloaded "*show1*E01*" it will not download any more files that matches E01, but will continue to download E02 etc.?

Without getting into too many non-AltBinz specifics about the nature of your downloads, it's usually the case that "different versions by different groups" are in different formats and indeed duplicate releases are forbidden by the relevant rules. So what most do is either filter by preferred format, or use a reliable source. Some sites also allow filtering of duplicates in the feed itself in the way you're describing (ep counters etc).

The short answer is: this isn't possible in Alt.Binz itself. There are plenty of 3rd party apps and scripts that do this and much more though - Google is your friend.

Edit: ofc, Setup > Download > 'Skip if file is already downloaded' will take care of *literal* duplicates.
