Moving from 0.39.4 free to 0.47.1 - how to keep it portable?
« on: December 05, 2019, 04:32:00 am »
I've been using 0.39.4 free for a long time (as portable / non-installed). I really like it because I can copy one folder to a flash drive or another computer and it backs up my servers, DL history, everything.

I'd like to be able to run the new 0.47.1 the same way if possible. I searched the forum and found information that says you need to have a misc folder in the same folder as the exe file. There is already a misc folder in the same folder as the 0.39.4 free portable. So, can I just replace the old exe with the new exe and it will just run the new version as portable? Or is it more involved than that?

One thing I am concerned about is the 3 PC limit. Is that any 3 simultaneous? Or once you install it on 3, you can't put it on another? Having it portable has allowed me to move it from computer to computer without having to reconfigure anything. When I go on vacation or a business trip, I copy my current "portable" folder from my desktop to a laptop and my configuration and DL history come with me. When I get back home, I transfer the folder back to my desktop PC to retain history of what I downloaded while away. Will that still be possible with the latest version?

My wife and I will each run a copy on our desktop PC's, so that's the first 2 copies. If I put it on a laptop that's the 3rd. But I tend to change laptops frequently. Will I be stuck with the first laptop once installed? Or does it matter as long as we don't try to run more than 3 copies at once? In reality when I am using my laptop version I will not be using my desktop version.

Thanks for any advice.

Everything is the same regarding portable function.
Regarding the limit - once you change computer - stop running it on old one and start using it on new one and you'll be fine.
